battery charging won't keep up to game play???

So, is it inadequate, or a misunderstood superior feature?

I wonder if Apple used the TDP for the i7 and 6750? In theory, a chip can draw more power than the TDP rating when under heavy load, which could have lead to them underspeccing that power supply.

e.g. the TDP for the i7 is 45W, leaving only 40W spare (based on an 85W power supply) for the screen, hard drive, logic board and GPU.

Fat, you know I love you. 🙂 But, your math is a bit off here. Thats 45 watts at, what, 1.1 volt? The power adapter puts out 85w at close to 20 volts. So, the math works that watts equals voltage times amperage. Ie, at 1.1 volts you have a lot more than 85 watts to work with.

Are there any 3rd party made power adaptors that can push out more than the standard 85W? I'd buy one in a minute if there were.

Nothing wrong with my maths, I hold a degree in electronic and electrical engineering, I'm well aware of the relationship between current and voltage and also the effect capacitors have on power draw (real v reactive power). 45W is Intel's figure on the heat a heatsink is required to disperse to keep a CPU at below the safe maximum temperature.

If the TDP figure is 45W, then that's what the CPU is theoretically drawing (actually, slightly more), regardless of what the PSU is capable of supplying.

I suppose it would also depend on how long you play games. I'm hardly anywhere near a gamer, but I enjoy a few minutes of game time occasionally. Whenever I have played a game on my 2011 MBP 13", I've never noticed a battery drop or anything. I just think after amount of time, apple might draw a slight amount of power from the battery in order to alleviate stress off of the adapter. Why should people be getting mad though? Everyone knows that macs still aren't gaming machines. Sure, they're getting better (very slowly) but that's not what they are designed for. I don't have a problem with my MBP at all. However, I do agree with everyone saying having the option for a bigger adapter would be nice.

Has the OP tried another charger? Maybe the one he has is defective or borderline charge challenged.

so far not an option ... Im the only one i know at the moment local to me that has a mac. plus others have said its a known thing for these mbp's ...

as for aftermarket powersupplies has anyone found and tried a higher watt one? I wonder if that would solve the problem.
