I have a 3 year old iPhone 14, which I’m happy with, but the battery seems to suffer, even though it’s at 85% capacity.
I have done dozens of battery changes for other people, but never on my own devices, because I don’t want to loose and functionality etc.
But changing the battery at apple costs $200 vs $20 if I replace it myself.
Would I loose truetone etc. if I change it myself? or just battery features?

What was the last iPhone you've changed a battery on? Last iPhone I changed a battery on was a 4s. After that it was - hell no, too crazy. My wife has had 2 battery changes from Apple and even they destroyed her phone once (got a replacement for free).

I'm curious where you get the $200 cost? It cost us $99 to get a new battery at the Apple Store for my wife's iPhone (paid out of pocket).

Think it was an 11 or 12 pro. The crazy cost is because I live in Norway 🙂.
First time I’ve used a phone for so long. I used to swap to the newest model each year, but didn’t see the point anymore. If the 17 was reasonably priced, maybe because of the 60hz, but the base 17 costs $1200 😱. The used value if a 14 is only slightly higher the what a battery change would cost at apple. I don’t see any difficulties changing it myself, but am unsure if if would impact truetone etc. if so it’s a no.

If you think you are going to keep the phone for another 2-3 years then you should just pay $200 and have it replaced professionally. Sure you may be able to change it yourself but you are also risking a lot. What if the phone just stops working?
