From what I understand, even when your AW is turned off, it still uses power for low powered Bluetooth for locating with apps like Find My Device. So it is never really off until it depletes the battery.
But it is a bit too excessive to drop from 50+% to 10% over 6-7 hours when it is turned off.
I agree. when I saw 97%, I thought it lost 3% overnight. Sorry.
I would keep my eye on it and keep us posted.
If it continues, might be best for Apple to take a look at it. Not sure if their diagnostics will show the problem so if I were you I would keep records and screen shots to help convince them of your problem. At most you should not lose more than 1%, at the most 2% overnight with Watch turned off. Thanks for your input. I will try to update Watch 9.1 and see how it goes.. It is really bad since the update to iOS 16 and Watch OS 9.0.
Just an update. The situation worsen to the point of dropping 100% to 10% even when the watch is turned off. Strangely, it also managed to charge to 100% from 10% in less than an hour.
Had sent my watch to Apple. Apparently, it might not be a software issue and it could be even not be a battery issue. This would mean a full cost repair is expected. 🙁
‘If you watch went from 100% to 10%, overnight while turned off it is time to send it to Apple for sure. Keep us posted!
Hopefully, Apple will just hand you a new watch so you can move on.Sure, will do that.. It feels like it is an issue which the watch is reporting the wrong battery % but will see what Apple has to say. Hopefully it is just a battery issue!

Latest update. No hardware issue found so they are refusing any repair for the watch.![]()
Sorry to hear that.
I will try to bring it to another store for assistance. Hopefully, this time I can meet someone more sensible to look into this issue. Today, I tested using iOS 9 low power mode. Battery life went from 100% to 28% in 6 hours without me doing anything to the watch with exception of checking the time and a few notifications that came in during this period.
Hard to believe they could find nothing. Does it do it all the time or is the problem intermittent?
Not intermittent. It can be reproduced every time. I showed them screenshots. In fact, the issue has been verified at the genius groove before sending down to repair depot. But they could not find any problem with the hardware based on their "comprehensive" test thus concluded no repair will be done.
Did you ever get this resolved? I have almost the exact same issue as you. Was sent to the repair depot twice and their diagnostics found no problems. Reproduced by the Genius Bar at the local apple store, but they couldn't convince Apple to reapir. So I now have an ongoing case with Apple that has lasted nearly 3 months. I found this in the Apple Support Communities and pursuing this leaky battery approach. It appears this problem is fairly common and is not a part of Apple diagnostics which is why it is a massive uphill battle to convince them there is a problem. Surprising a tech giant like Apple can troubleshoot a battery that can't hold a charge when the diagnostics checks out fine and battery health is good. I loose 46% battery while off for 8 hours consistently and the watch itself last at most 9-10 hours. This is an AW7 Titanium will no cell activated and only stock apps. My battery slope is very similar to your as well. Like a 45 degree drop. Not intermittent. It can be reproduced every time. I showed them screenshots. Perhaps this idea has already been mentioned, but have you tried turning off Bluetooth for a couple of hours to see a difference?
