We have a 2014 iPad for my daughter and when she’s playing roblox it drains the battery in 1.5 hours..

Is this just because it’s old and working harder that it’s draining? Or would a new iPad be equally bad on the battery? The battery gets incredibly hot too touch/too hot to rest on legs etc

I don’t know this particular app but the heat issue you described sounds serious. I’d consider a new one for that reason alone already.

I suggest installing the app iMazing on your desktop (MacBook or iMac) and connect the iPad to that device. It will give you a report on the battery condition and tell you the cycles on the battery as well as health of the battery.

Alternatively you can get the same information by having Apple do a remote diagnostic check on the iPad. You can initiate a support chat with Apple and they can do that while you are online with them.

If the issue is simply that the battery needs to be replaced (which seems very possible given the age of the iPad) then you can have that done, either by sending the device to Apple (or using a local authorized repair shop which will do the same thing), or have a local independent repair shop do the work. It'll cost you $99 max.

I did this recently for a 5th generation iPad that I purchased in 2017.
