Really? I always thought that was bad for the battery?

Modern batteries have wildly different chemical make-up than old batteries. But even lead-acid batteries and NiCD's will lose usable capacity when discharged deep. Modern chargers are very intelligent. Often they consist of a tiny microcontroller in the battery with a bunch of sensors, communicating with the charger, a microcontroller itself, in the host. They track a great number of parameters regarding the battery, trying to optimize performance and even adapting to the way you use your equipment. Trusting this technology is safer than trying to second-guess batterymakers.

On day three here. Been using Sketchbook Pro, lots of web surfing, lots of tumblr via tumblita. It's at 35% right now.

You should have charged it on day 2.;) By far the best way to preservative life/capacity is to plug it in every night while you sleep. This gives plenty of time to recharge completely and insures you have plenty of juice for the day.

I'm assuming my LTE connection dropping on my commuter rail ride to be the problem. Although, no use at work, battery went from 46% to 32%.

30 minutes of use and I'm down to 28%, which isn't bad.

I usually keep mine between 45-50%; it's very rare I go any higher.

I'm also getting great battery life just using my home wi-fi network with an acceptable brightness. I use about 30% throughout the whole day and lower it slightly when if in a dark room. I would only go to 50% or above if in a good deal of sun.

So the best way to charge the iPad is to charge it every night while you sleep? As long as it is more than 15% drained? Also I was playing a game that i don't think is to resource intensive (air tycoon 2) with airplane mode on for about 30 min and the battery went down 4%, is this normal drain? Sorry this is my first iPad so I'm not sure how the batteries are.
I have auto brightness on with the bar at about 50% but if I turn off auto brightness the screen usually gets brighter.

Usually I charge it every other day, but for some reason it didn't charge last night, so I started out this morning at 57% Seems to still be working out alright.

This battery is amazing. I'm on 12 hours of moderate use and my battery is only at 84%

I assume you're including it being in standby mode sometimes, correct? What I mean is, you're not talking about 12 hours of straight use right? If that's the case, mine is actually pretty similar to yours, but I'm still unsure whether or not I would be able to get the 10 hours of battery life that Apple claims.

One of these days I think I'm going to perform a test. I'll try charging the battery to 100%, and immediately begin playing a movie that I've synced from iTunes. Once the movies over, I'll record the battery percent remaining then do some math and figure out if their claims are correct.

Actually while im at it, I'll just update you guys with some battery drainage numbers. Again I don't know if this is normal but I turned my iPad on earlier today at about 3 PM (5 hours ago) with the battery at 93%. At the time of this writing, my battery is at 83%. So within five hours, I've dropped 10% and that's mostly just from some web surfing. I watched about five minutes worth of YouTube video, and maybe about five minutes of the game "draw something", but other than that it's just been some web browsing. But I can tell you that I haven't been using it for five hours straight, there has been some standby in there is well.

Does this sound about right, or should I head over to the Apple Store the next chance I get?

Well if you add all the time you spent using the iPad, does it add up to about an hour? Because if your iPad is supposed to sustain a charge through 10 hours of use that would mean the battery essentially depletes at about 10% per hour of usage. So, if out of the five hours, you used your iPad for about an hour or more and the battery only depleted 10% than it's fine. However, if you think the time spent actually using the iPad is far less than that, you may have a problem.
