I have a little situation going on and I’m not sure what to do. I just upgrade my 10 x max to the iPhone 12 pro max. I gave the 10 x max to my 77 year old mother who is visiting me from Chicago. I currently live in Georgia. Anyway, the 10 x max battery health is at 94%. I purchased the phone 2 years ago on release day. Now my moms old phone which is a iPhone 7 I plan on giving it to my mother in law. That battery health is at 87%. I have a Best Buy appointment within a few hours and I had planned on replacing the battery in the 7. My question is do you guys think I should replace my moms 10 x max battery before she leaves tomorrow and just wait to do the 7? My mother in law does live here in Georgia so it wouldn’t be much of a problem getting it to her and helping her set it up.

Honestly... at 94% battery health I don’t think you should replace it. Unless you had battery issues. Replacing the iPhone 7 battery at 87% is being nice honestly. I get it though I wouldn’t want to give my mother in law anything that may have a chance of being “bad” soon. However Apple says all is fine above 80%. I personally would be close to replacing my battery when it gets to 87% too though.

94% though I feel should be adequate enough.

I have a 4-1/2 year old iPhone Ive used every day all day for 4-1/2 years and its original battery health is still above 95% (or so coconutBattery says). You definitely don't need to replace the Max's battery

Will you two see each other again in the next year? 94% after two years is amazing honestly. Of course it could drain faster at one point but atm it seems like you have had good luck with your batteries. And took good care of it! I wouldn't do a change at 94% atm. Maybe in a year or so but now is too soon and too bad about the money.

87% I would do if you don't see each other in a while. Otherwise I would wait till it gets to around 80%.

Thanks and yes we will. I was afraid that it might need replacing and I’m not up there to help her set it back up. Normally when Apple shoot out an update, I’ll have her take it to Verizon to update it because she doesn’t have wifi. I tell her once she gets out of her car to call me so I can tell the rep exactly what I need them to do and to give them her iCloud info lol. She has came a long way with learning how to use iPhones. She started out a few years ago with a flip phone that she had for over 7 years. It wouldn’t work when she would go out of town. Not to mention she was paying too much, so I added her to my account. I love the fact that we can FaceTime each other while living far away.

First I think it's great that you engage with you mother regarding modern devices so much. I know what it is like although my parents do know a bit and have internet. It can be nerve-racking but that's why we love them haha. And your mom seems great, not every 70+ year old person is interested in handling an iPhone. I love that to be honest!!!
But I wouldn't be afraid of something happening to the device esp battery in the next months. Highly unlikely. Next time you see her, do the battery exchange at the Apple Store for her. Then it is probably worth it!

Thank you! I have been trying my best to keep her up to date lol. She’s doing it too. She started out with the iPhone 5c, 7 and now the x max. I was afraid that she would have a problem because the home button no longer exist, but to my surprise she’s doing great! I love the fact that if she run into a problem she’ll call me and I’ll patiently walk her through once she get her glasses on lol.
