Battery is not charging! ( Pavel Gudkov , Norway )

Hello Everyone!

I own a 2007 year model of white macbook. I rarely use this laptop as it is my secondary computer. After a long period of sitting on a shelf, the laptop was turned on. However, the battery is not charging! When i plug the power adapter out, the computer instantly shuts down!
Do you know what could be wrong, and how i can resolve the problem?

How long did you leave it on the shelf? It's possible the battery is dead. You could try resetting the SMC. Also, see the link for troubleshooting MagSafe adapters at the bottom of the CHARGING section of the following link. This should answer most, if not all, of your battery questions:

The last time i used my macbook was probably a year ago, and the battery was working just fine!
I will read the older "troubleshooting" posts, hopefully there is an answer!

If it was not stored properly, it's entirely possible the battery is dead and should be replaced.

Long-Term Storage
If you don’t plan on using your notebook for more than six months, Apple recommends that you store the battery with a 50% charge. If you store a battery when it’s fully discharged, it could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding any charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may experience some loss of battery capacity, meaning it will have a shorter life. Be sure to store your notebook and battery at the proper temperature. (See “Notebook Temperate Zone.”)

I cannot see any "X" on the battery icon.

I tried to reset the SMC but it did not solve the problem. It seems that i will need to purchase a new battery.
