It seems that with iOS 14.6 the battery life and energy usage has got worse for me on iPhone 11 Pro.

After 14.5 the battery was recalibrated automatically, and jumped ‘magically’ from 85 to 90%, then after some cycles it is now on 94% of the original capacity.

However, with 14.5 and 14.5.1 there were no usage issues.

After updating the phone to 14.6 it now suddenly gets really warm at some very random points where, for example, browsing network as before. I cannot predict at which points. Sometimes everything is fine. It might be subjective but I think it has not been so before.

Battery has got a bit unpredictable as well - it says 25% and in the next moment drops by 5 or 10%. Drop was steady and consistent in previous iOS versions.

Anyone experiencing something similar?

Same thing here, 14.6 with not so old 6s. It began with 14.5.1.
I know it’s an older phone and battery has less capacity, but behaviour is exactly the same, which leads me to conclusion that it’s software related.

I used to be on here decades ago but lost my email so joined up again, so hi to everyone!

ios14 has generally been good for me on an iPhone SE 2020, iPhone 12 mini & an iPad Pro 2020.

however , on both iPhones just recently and at different times, the battery would drop by about 30% during the day or night. No changes in my usage. I only have background refresh on for about 4 items and none of which are listed below.

before this battery drain happened, I enabled the new firewall in 1Blocker and noticed that Shazam (the app) was hitting iBeacon constantly even when not using the app. I realise that apps might still use services once you leave them, but this was happening for hours. Soon as I closed (swiped up) Shazam the battery issues vanished (until the mysterious battery drops recently on 14.5.1.)

now, on 14.6, I use BeatHawk(music app). It’s on all my devices and my battery is tanking bad. I’d normally put it down to the new iOS just doing its thing for a day, but I looked in the battery section and noticed that BeatHawk was running in the background the entire time the devices were powered on. Closed it fully and it stopped the drain. Updated the iPad to 14.6 and then opened BeatHawk and this morning it had been running for 14 hours. Must be a bug in beathawk, I think. I’ll contact the devs.

I used to be one who didn’t really turn stuff off, like location stuff and notifications and push, but after getting a bit paranoid watching YouTube the last few months, I started disabling tons of stuff. It made marginally any difference compared to when I had most of this turned on, so it’s been all back on and all is fine. I’d rather have the feature than a half-functional phone.

sorry for the ramble and not sure if this is what’s causing your problems. But once I stopped Shazam and BeatHawk, battery has been good so far. The strange thing about 14.5.1 is that the battery drain only happened about a weeks ago, well after it came out. Maybe it was an app or something. 5394EEBB-3B6D-45C0-B71D-0F93822A5D9F.png

iPhone 12 mini here -> My battery usage report is not even accurate anymore. It doesn’t detect on which app I was and can report me 11min of screen time when I have been one hour non stop on the phone

Furthermore the battery is veeery weak, when I updated from 14.2.1 (which was good) to 14.5 and 14.5.1 I managed all those times to get as far as between 8 to 10h SOT (indoor low luminosity) !

I will test that a little more today but it seems annoying to all the time have new problems. I had no problems with my p30, I thought apple had the most optimized Software…

I noticed this, too, on an iPhone 12 mini and SE 2020. It didn’t even report the correct day. Seems ok today though. It had the completely wrong usage for screen on and off.

It is just my subjectve and ‘conspiration’ theory which might be wrong as well, but why it was needed to recalibrate battery at this point.

I do not really believe that this sudden reported jump for 10 percent in battery life (see the first post) is correct and reflects accurate situation. Seems more to just to calm some end users eyes saying your phones battery is really good.

Yes, I would not doubt that. My 11 Pro went from 94% to 100% and its draining like crazy now with 14.6. No way its at 100%

Now I am not sure if I want to even try to update software on my iPad for now…

I just connected my 11 Pro up to a Mac with Coconut battery:
Full charge is higher than designed capacity?

There has been a lot of speculation that the later builds of iOS are not accurately measuring battery capacity and health. There have been other reports of the battery health actually rising, without using the recalibration. I would not worry too much about the overall mAh specifications so much to be honest.

Hard reset your 11 Pro a few more times and you’d be at 100% in no time. That’s what I’ve been doing every time I want my battery health to go up. 96% and counting.

Updated on Monday, no change in battery life fire me, 11ProMax. And my battery health was 93% prior to 14.5 and stayed the same.

It just happened to my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I was browsing Safari and I felt the device heating up next to the rear cameras and the battery began to drain. iOS 14.6.
Hey bud,

Any chance, was it only doing so on specific websites or in general? I have heard reports of this site heating them up while other sites do not, somewhat weird. Generally speaking, most iphones have the main processor on the same side as the camera, more than likely that is where the heat was coming from as it was processing more work than a typical idle. Also, when the CPU is working, it will pull more power than when it is idle.

Got the same battery draining issue since updating to 14.6 with my iPhone 12 mini. In addition to drain very quickly while idle there are sometimes a few percentage "jumps" – that reminds me of my old iPhone 7 which I replaced because that. I already talked to the support and surprise: Everything regarding the battery looks fine. I also checked every setting in terms of notifications, background refresh etc.

It occurred by browsing precisely the MacRumors forum.

iPhone SE 2020 for me it is the App Store that drains the most of my battery. In 10 days the Appstore used 24% of the available energy, background activity. Daily it uses 23%. The strange thing is that I use the App Store rarely. I have automatic downloads disabled (Apps, App Updates), Video Autoplay Off, In-App Rating and Reviews Off, Offload unused Apps Off. Background App Refresh Off. For me it looks like the App Store is the main app that drains the battery of the phone.

Same here. SOT has dropped to about 6 hours (used to get about 8hours) on my iPhone 11. This past week is the first time since owning the phone that I’ve had to charge the phone by the evening because of low battery warning.

I accept it as part of the “upgrade” algorithm inserted into iOS to run empty while() loops on older devices to “encourage” you to buy a new device.
