I went to the apple store with my 14PM as the battery life is shocking. I can be playing a game for 30 mins and it loses 15-20% of the battery. low and behold apples diagnostics found nothing wrong and the "Genius" said its an acceptable drop when being used. 🤯

they recommended setting it up as a new phone incase there was anything residual in my backup that was excessivly draining the battery. they said it would retained all the icloud data, but they didnt actually show me how to do it.

Every iPhone ive had I have always restored from an iCloud backup and then before that, an iTunes backup so ive never set up as a new phone before.

when wiping the phone and setting it up as new, im assuming im meant to select the 5th option in this list? https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT202033

i went ahead and tried it, and some things were there again like my contacts, and the ability to restore my whatsapp chats, but my iMessages were empty, so wondering if i made the wrong selection?

Depends what game you’re playing, if it’s a demanding title, like Genshin Impact, a 15-20% drop in 30 minutes would be viewed as normal. Either look into a MagSafe battery pack or a battery case for additional charge on the go.

ok, but how would i set up as a new phone while still being able to retain iMessages, which the apple store said i could do?

If you log in with the same Apple ID as your previous phone your iMessages should appear. I have never had an issue with iMessage.

and how do you do that?
Settings -> Apple ID, Cloud, Media & Purchases. Have you never used a phone before? Most phone literate people can figure this out in 10 seconds. It’s not rocket science.

you go to your media and purchases to reset your phone and set up as a new one? 😑

news to me.

Log into your Apple ID. Are you able to purchase apps on the AppStore? If you are using the same Apple ID as your previous phone your iMessages will link up and you should see your old messages.

Settings/General/Transfer or Reset iPhone/Erase All Content and Settings.

When you boot up the phone again it will ask if you want to back up from iCloud or start as new.

Hope this helps.
