I've been following the battery life reviews with keen interest, but I don't remember this being covered.

I know that dark mode helps with battery life on devices with OLED displays. I'm having trouble finding much info about whether this is also the case for the Mini LED display on the new 14"/16" MBP.

Can anyone direct me to a good resource (if any) or share personal experience?

Logically speaking it should help if it's off or dimmer on the dark parts. Since it dims or turns off the led array (or smth like that) when it's not showing anything. Which is how we can get those deep blacks.

For a real world test tho. I tried it. And can say that the difference is much higher when you're on a higher brightness level. So I was watching an HDR content (local so nothing running in BG other than it) , my battery is 100% so it's not using any power from the battery and I'm still plugged in to my powerbank which shows the output wattage. On scenes with many light scenes. Especially since in HDR it can show it at a much higher brightness. It uses so much power. And when it's on the dark scenes it uses so much less power. And I tested this for many scenes with the same exact results..

So yeah it does make a difference. It should since it's not a static brightness overall like usual LCD screen.

Fantastic. Thanks. Exactly what I was looking for.
