Seeing how I commented here on being very happy with a decently returned battery life (finally) with iOS 18.4, I'd be very interested in also hearing if things re battery have remained unchanged with 18.4.1

18.4.1 is unbelievable amazing so far!
Gave me the best Geekbench 6 scores among all iOS versions untill now and battery life seems to be on par or even better than 16.6.1 and 17.7! Definitely better than 18.4 in all aspects!
Works cold from the very beginning which has always been a very good sign of great battery in my past experience.

FaceTime surprised me initially with how insane the battery life drop is. It’s among the heaviest possible tasks, and it’s always been like this, regardless of the iOS version installed. It just plummets.
That's true, but the video quality is quite decent, which is to be expected in the Apple world of 2025.

I had to switch to FB Messenger and I was suddenly in pixelation hell one would usually see playing Minecraft. Not just that but that App also dragged the battery down quite quickly. Admittedly it was an unstable connection at the recipient's side but FaceTime made this experience so much better.

Glad you were able to catch that!

Intentionally-facetious comment highlighting how one's singular focus can obfuscate the obvious ;)

If a device doesn't get a charge, surely it cannot operate.
Try and use a QI charger if you haven't tried it. Could be the lightning port that's failed.

Can anyone please comment on the performance, I just purchased on and it still has iOS 17 on it. Worried if I upgrade to the latest it will have a massive impact on the performance...

No, you won’t lose performance from 17 to 18, just on a contrary, it will gain performance.
If it was on iOS 16 I would give it a second thought, but since it’s on 17, just update it to 18.4.1 with confidence. This latest version is better than any previous iOS 18.x/17.x and most of the 16.x versions (except maybe 16.6.1, but it is veeery close)

Guys, how is 18.4.1? Has any of you tried it?
The only thing that slays my 13 Mini battery charge is using the screen outdoors for an extended amount of time. Other than that, any other uses leaves me plenty of charge at the EOD.

Well, I stupidly upgraded and now the battery will not last more than few hours. The Battery Health is 78% not sure if that makes a big difference.

Since you were on iOS 17 theres prob a good bit of post maintenance going on, leave it in the charger for a while and give it a few days. You will most likely see an improvement.
Since your health is a bit on the low side consider tweaking the device to save a bit of battery (would have been applicable no matter what OS version you were running). There is loads of advice online on tweaks. Things such as disable background services, skip push on mail, check what services that are consuming battery and so on.

And if this is a phone you will keep for a few years why not consider leaving it to an Apple support center and swap battery for a new one, will most likely give you a good boost in battery/device performance.

Done those things even with having healthy battery. I don't use much apps - battery replacement is currently looking at £90, might consider it reluctantly. Before upgrading to iOS 18 there was no issue for sure.

17.7 or 18.4.1 for 13mini?

I downgraded when 18.0 and I think 18.1 was kinda crap

*it’s a backup device to my 16plus if that changes the equation
