Battery Maintenance

OK, I am a little SLOW when it comes to taking care of batteries... some you need to discharge all the way, once in a while, some you keep charged, etc.

What is the recommended battery maintenance regimen for the iPhone battery type?

I always keep my battery topped-off by charging it every night. My understanding is that these batteries don't have much of a memory effect and too many deep cycles might shorten its life.
