I rarely get even close to using half the battery life in the course of the day.
I noticed the battery is now charged to 86% and then charging "holds."

Is there a way to force a full charge prior an expected long use?

Just found it. It looks like you would turn off Optimal Battery Charging in the Battery Preference panel.

No need to turn it off, there is an option to fully charge when clicking the battery icon in the menu bar.

It does that to save battery life, and like the last guy said, there's an option in the battery menu to charge it fully if you know you're going to unplug soon.
