Everybody knows by now, analog display superior to digital. Digital display just make you more neurotic, plus adding percentage take extra room on top that otherwise can be used for something else, K.I.S.S. YMMV.

What is that space going to be used for most of the time?

How is analog more superior to digital in this scenario--what is analog here?

As far as "neurotic" or anything like that, that's not the display, that's simply down to the person.

On!

Whilst it's easy to get obsessive about drops in percentage, it's a far more accurate indicator of what's left in the tank. And in the event of power hogging apps or faulty batteries you have a much better chance of picking it up.

I may have it off this month.
Next month I turn it on, just something different.
No justifiable reason either way.
I generally have a battery pack with me, and pull that out when I think I need it.
the percentage readout on the phone is not necessary, at least for me...

Off. Although I wish you can have the value inside the battery icon like you can with Android. Don't need to see a % sign.

I used to have it on since my first iPhone. I just recently stopped doing this on my 7 though. The first days were so anxiety ridden about not knowing what percent my battery was at. Now I enjoy not seeing the percentage, because ironically I used to worry about how many percent each thing I did in my phone took. Now it more or less -I either have enough battery, or I need to charge.
YMMV

I have it on although I really do not need it, I am not a heavy user. I just fully charge overnight and I am good for the next day. If that was not the case with my usage, the iPhone would be a goner.

On.
People should get their OCDs treated, seriously. Turning off the battery percentage isn't going to solve the problem. It's just alleviating the symptoms...

The battery indicator is excess information for some users. I turn it off because it's just a waste of space, in my opinion.

mine is always on.....lets me know when i need to stop BSing around on facebook or tapatalk and conserve battery. I travel alot on buisiness so rather not have to deal with charging if I dont have to. But just in case I carry a battery pack to charge it.

Like someone stated before I do wish you could just choose the digital read out and get rid of the picture. just me tho

Off. from notification screen you can see the actual if needed.

The icon is also clear enough to let you visualize where you are at. Unless you want to charge at 37%, the specifics are not needed.

This was important previously when the battery died a lot faster. Now under normal circumstances you can make it through a day on one charge.

Yeah, those few millimeters at the top is really taking up a lot of screen real estate. Imagine what you could use that saved space for.

Do you really need to know the exact percentage of charge that is left?

(hint - It's a rough estimate anyway...)

Does it really bother you that much to leave it off? It's really such an incredibly stupid non-issue it's beyond understanding why anyone is bickering over it. It's entirely aesthetic for me. I like how it looks. It's perfectly alright for anyone to leave it off if they like it that way. There doesn't need to be a reason. I was just poking fun at the amazing space savings of leaving it off ... as it literally takes up no room and that tiny fraction of space isn't used for anything else anyway.

Then I don't understand why you're arguing with me about it. I don't care how you use your phone, it's your phone. I replied to someone else because they implied turning it off had something to do with OCD.

I'm not arguing. I was poking fun at your space savings comment. It wasn't an attack on you.

There was a post I read somewhere on these forums that convinced me to shut it off. I must say it is very relaxing not obsessing and over-thinking the battery situation, especially since battery is much improved with my 7 (over my 5S).

Did the post say something particularly convincing?

Labeling a two digit number as "excess information", alright. How do you survive in this modern world, in which everybody is bombarded with information all day? Turning off this tiny number is surely gonna help. Sorry that's ridiculous.
A waste of space? So how are you going to use that "precious" empty space at the top status bar? I'm listening..

Of course this is a typical example of people's OCDs. Healthy people are not obsessed with their battery percentage, so no need to turn off that helpful indicator. From a practical standpoint there is simply no reason to turn it off.

"From a practical standpoint", it's not even accurate. The battery icon tells me enough information.

I think it's funny that you're diagnosing people with OCD via the internet based on a single observation. First of all, you're not QUALIFIED. Second, even if you were qualified, you don't have enough information to come to that conclusion. You're ASSUMING things.

Like I said to someone else, I don't care how you use your phone. It's your phone. Do whatever you want with it.

It is accurate. My phone shuts down a few minutes (depending on usage) after it reached 1%. It stops charging at 100%. It does fall from 80% to 70% in about the same time it falls from 30% to 20%. I don't see your argument there, except your iPhone isn't calibrated properly and shuts off at 7% or something like that. But wait, you don't even know when it is at 7%, my bad.

You're absolutely right, I am not qualified to diagnose anything. Thing is, people diagnosed it for themselves. There are several replies here in which people claim that they are indeed obsessed with the percentage and look at it all the time or are bothered by every single percentage that drops.

I don't care how you use your phone. If you got this little quirk and feel better with the percentage off, go for it. But please just stop with these far-fetched arguments like "cleaner look", "excess information" and so on...
