Hello , i just got recently an iPhone XS MAX 64gb , the first Week it's been working fine , but the second Week i noticed a significant drain in the battery , eveytime i grab my phone to do anything , the battery drops automatically by 1% and continues to drain .
If i dont use it , i lose approximately 1-2% per hour .
Since the problem wasn't there the first Week , i Wonder if it's a real hardware problem or just Something went wrong in the software ( wich i Don't think it has , because i did a "reset and erase the iPhone " multiple times).

I Don't know if i have to go to an apple store or is there a solution i can try before ?

Thanks in advance :)

The battery percentage displayed is an estimate. There's no exact way to measure exactly how much useful charge remains in a lithium ion battery.

That being so, in order to calibrate the battery charge indicator to help it know where Full and Low are, it can be useful to fully charge it to 100% and leave it plugged in for 20 minutes once it hits 100%, (because when it first shows 100%, it's not actually at 100% charge) then discharge it down to about 10% or so, then charge it all the way back up.

Doing this doesn't help the battery in any way (actually it's kinda hard on it) but helps teach the charge indicator where the two limit points are.

Personally, I never calibrate my charge indicator ever. Haven't done it intentionally in 2 years, because I'm not a fan of the 100% to 10% battery swing.

Losing 1-2% per hour when doing "nothing" isn't at all odd, since there's always something going on in the background. Try putting it into Airplane Mode before letting it go to sleep, and see what happens to battery life.

As a data point (as stated above)
If I put my phone into Battery/Low Power Mode, then put it into Airplane Mode, this will kill virtually all background processes and the transmitter/receiver.

If I set it like that before going to bed, the battery percentage will be exactly the same in the morning with no drop.
If I leave Airplane Mode Off, it'll drop several percentage points over night (about 7)

I noticed a pretty big difference in battery life when I updated to ios 12.4.1 the other day. Prior to that, everything was working pretty normally but since then battery seems to drain a couple of percentage points every time I do anything at all with it. I can check emails, spending maybe 3 or 3 minutes doing so, and it will lose 2 percent in that amount of time. This is not normal and I am hoping that after a couple of days or so of re-indexing due to the newer ios, it will return to normal. Make sense?

Nothing wrong with losing 1-2% per hour. That's perfectly normal. Bad cell signal will drain battery faster. Your phone is fine.

1.5 hr of uptime is not normal. Use the screentime app to see which app is draining the battery.

I had misread the op. The idle drain sounds fine. The drain after picking up is not. Sounds like a hardware issue. I would just take it in to apple to fix. Should be pretty easy to prove to the genius.

This. I was wondering why my 6s was losing like 10% every 5 minutes until I removed the old SIM card that it had and it fixed the issue.

Have a look at your battery stats and just check if there is anything strange going rogue in your phone.

Something I also found to be a drain on my XS Max when I first got it is this particular feature under Accessibility features which would have my iPhone burning through its battery:

Also ensure WiFi Assist is off

And in iCloud Drive, ensure only what you need is ticked

Thank you to everyone who took the time to help me :)
I'm sorry i'm so late , i had a lot of work to do over the weekend :(

I will start doing that , and get back to you , hopefully it will work :)

I had that attention feature on , i did all what u said , hope it works !
Thank you so much :)

I have typically 2-3 bars out of 4 bars of signal , i Wonder if that might be my issue with the battery.

PS : I have my SIM Card since 2010 , but it was working fine on my previous iPhone 7 plus with no battery drain whatsoever

Hello everyone , i did some research and i turned out that some people are experiencing the same thing after upgrading to 12.4.1 , do you think that might be what's causing all this ?

You will find people experiencing a seemingly-same problem of one sort or another after every update, new-product purchase, whatever. The fact that it seems the same does not mean it is the same, or that it might have been happening prior to the event but had not been noticed, or that it's due to a different cause. That's the internet for you.

So is it possible that you and someone else are having the same general symptoms? Yes. Does it mean you have the same illness? Not necessarily.

I am aware of all what u said , but sometimes the same symtoms can lead to the same illness ,that's why i asked so people could give me some insights about the ios 12.4.2 .
I want to gather as much information about my problem as i can , because going to the apple store is difficult as i live now abroad where there's no apple store at all :)
Thank you :)
