I don't have apple care.
This december I'm hoping to pay out of pocket to replace the battery in my iPhone X (and take advantage of the reduced rate).

Does anyone know conclusively if this is possible?

Thanks

Yes, they'll replace the battery at that reduced price. "Conclusively?" If the screen is broken they'll require that the screen be fixed. If there's liquid damage, then they're not going to replace the battery. Otherwise, yes, they'll do the job at the current, reduced price.

Apple won't replace it unless the battery health is not good. Even if you want to pay for it.

I think Apple is a lot better about battery replacements now but months ago my wife was denied battery replacement for her 6s twice even though her phone would not hold a charge for more than two hours (we offered to pay the full price of battery replacement) . They simply told us that her battery health was not yet below 80% and to come back after it had dropped to that level. Kudos to them for changing their policy though

Are we talking about something before 2018? Since the beginning of this year and basically through the end of the year the replacements should be a discounted rate and done regardless of whether or not the battery related tests pass or fail.

Yes . It was around December 2017 although the first attempt was around October . It was pretty frustrating at the time but thank goodness they came around in 2018

Ahh good to know. May try to get our iPhone 7 done since she is complaining about the battery not lasting. Even though it shows 95% health. We have no Apple Store local or within 200 miles. How do we go about doing that?

That’s because you’re on iOS 11.

iPhone 7 battery life is much worse on iOS 11.

A fresh battery may increase your battery life by over 10% though, not just 5%.

Make sure to fully back up your phone before you bring it in for the battery repair, as even Apple can break your phone during the replacement.

This is right of the apple website. As long as you are out of warranty you can get a replacement.

iPhone SE, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X

*Through December 31, 2018, the out-of-warranty battery service fee is $29 for all eligible iPhone 6 or later models. Battery service at $29 may be limited to one repair per iPhone.

it's only a temp thing. basically their way to avoid a bunch of lawsuits cause folks didn't understand that Apple didn't break their batteries, being old AF broke their batteries.

after this year the price will go back and the 'has to fail' will likely come back as well.
