So I just replaced the battery in my 2011 15" Macbook Pro because the old one was acting up from time to time and the system preferences gave the information "service battery".
I ordered one on Amazon and the swap was no problem.

But now I am trying to calibrate the battery according to the instructions on iFixit (https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+15-Inch+Unibody+Early+2011+Battery+Replacement/5889) and, after I plug in the magsafe, the sleep light indicator is lighting up.
I can also hear the fans going from time to time and the bottom of the machine is so hot you could fry eggs on it.
But when I open the lid, the screen doesn't turn on and when I press the power button nothing happens either.
It's been plugged in now for half an hour and nothing yet. I am getting worried ...

Why is the sleep light indicator on?
How long does it take until my Macbook comes to life again?

Did you reset the SMC and all the stuff?
No. It eventually turned on. The battery just lost 200 mhA over night though.
Not a good sign ...
Do you still I should still reset the SMC?

That’s good, if it‘s all working I wouldn’t worry about it but it won’t hurt it if you do.
