Hello everyone I have some concerns related to battery replacement procedure on a macbook air. The thing is I brought my laptop to a place for a replacement and at some point the technician after replacing the he connected some kind of usb in it and then started the laptop and it loked like it was processing something, while asked what was that he said it was some kind of configuration... but I have some doubts about it. Any ideas on this? Was he doing something shady like stealing my computer information or is just part of the “procedure “?

Thanks in advance.

I can't think of any reason why a USB device would need to be connected after a battery replacement. Was it just a thumb drive? How long did he fiddle with it while it was connected? In the best case he might have had a malware scanner on a USB drive, and he was checking for malware; in the worst case he was off-loading (stealing) your Keychain file for off-line cracking.

I can think of several reasons. There could have been a diagnostic program on the USB drive to insure the new battery was up to specifications. Said program may also been resetting the battery information back to baseline (new battery).

He booted up the machine but not from the user's account. There is very low chance it hacked into the user's directory. Someone with that kind of software/expertise would be working for the NSA, not Apple.

If you were dealing with an Apple Store it should be Kosher.
