Hello,

AppleCare set up an appointment for me today to take in my iPhone seven plus to an Apple Store. However the earliest appointment was a week from today so they set the appointment at the nearest Best Buy. I entered the Best Buy and they said they would replace the battery for $29 and it would take no more than 2 hours, however they told
Me that if I took it to the nearest Apple Store that the Apple Store would swap my iPhone with a new or refurbished one, for $29.

A new iPhone would be cool, but obviously the plan was for a simple battery replacement. I called AppleCare back asking if that was the case and he said typically the answer is no but that it has happened before at Apple Store and that ‘It depends.’

I have an Appointment at the Apple Store in a week and also an appointment at Best Buy for Tuesday.

Why did they think that Apple would swap it?

Apple wont swap it unless it is damaged during the battery replacement...

I went to Best Buy today to ask for a $29 refund after seeing an irate customer at their store complaining that they scratched and messed up his iphone. I saw the back room of the Geek a squad area and it looked like the young ‘technicians’ were taking the phones apart by hand amongst a sea of other electronics, including a 1990’s Super Nintendo.

I’ve since made an appointment for the Apple Store.

Should I expect to be able to go in and hand in my phone and wait perhaps as little as an hour? I would image Apple has a lot of batteries, especially this in the final month of the year during this battery pricing promotion.

BestBuy didn’t have any iPhone batteries, despite my paying $29 to reserve one saying it would take 3-5 days for it to arrive. I’m looking at my original post in this thread and managed to get that appointment with Best Buy the same day. Instead, I’m hoping the Apple Store is better prepared and more capable of exchanging the iPhone battery.

What should I expect? A quick battery replacement? Under an hour? Best Buy wanted me to leave it overnight and then to wait for them to call me; but I wouldn’t have a phone.

I would definitely have Apple store do it. Also, check the phone before leaving the store to insure it’s working as before they worked on it. There are stories on here about people having Apple work on their phones and finding problems when they get it home.

I went into Apple store to have battery replaced on my 6s.
They refused due to 3rd party battery!
I had to replace it because the original was failing and there was like a couple month wait back then.

They don't swap unless it gets damaged or doesn't pass diagnostics.

If you have any third-party components, they will refuse service.

They swap batteries even if it passes the battery test if you insist.

As for the denial of 3rd party components claim, it's still worth a shot.
A family member of mine was able to get his battery replaced a week ago on his iP6 at the Apple Store, and he for certain has a 3rd party LCD in his phone. He had a 82% battery health reading, so it passed.
Was he the exception? no idea, but they didn't hassle him at all.

Well little story from my last visit to Apple Store. I had problem iPhone X with earpiece. I booked appointment. And Few days later I went to Apple store. As my friend has iPhone 6s Plus (previously mine) and it has cracked screen I told him if you want we can give them to swap screen and battery. iPhone 6 Plus still has Apple Care+. With that no problem. But interesting part was they first moment offered repleacement but 5 min later they said as phone can be fix so they will fix and change battery. Ok fine. £79 for repleacement or £58 for screen & battery no prob. And lady from Apple Store bring phone to repair. She came back and said it will cost £25 for both screen and new battery. This was best deal for that money. I’m glad. Sure they fixed my iPhone X earpiece in 2 minutes. But they didn’t want to swap battery for my iPhone X because health is 92%.

I was referring to swapping out the entire phone. They won't swap your phone out unless it gets damaged or fails diagnostics after they do the battery service.

I was referring to the bottom part of your message where you respond: "If you have any third-party components, they will refuse service." You responded that to Flynnstone's quote: "I went into Apple store to have battery replaced on my 6s. They refused due to 3rd party battery!". Flynnstone is only referring to a battery swap, not a replacement device.

No actually I was replying to the thread AKA the OP. If I was replying to Flynnstone's I would have quoted.

I hated the Best Buy experience where I arrived for my
Appointment on time and they said no batteries were available so they ordered one for me from Apple so long as I paid then and there and then waited days to still no avail. I returned to Best bug and asked for a refund which they ultimate did.

My appointment with the Apple store is in a few days so I’m hoping I can go in and they replace the battery perhaps in under an hour or so. Is this what I should expect? Apple should definitely have a plethora of batteries on hand in this the final few weeks of the year long promotion.

Turns out a ton of older non tech literate folks get the geek squad warranty since it claims to fix any software or hardware issues your electronic device may encounter.

At the end of the day it’s just young 20 somethings that have to look up manuals in the back while you think they’re pros.
