As you can see on the Spec cases the camera whole is larger on one than the other, i think this is because of the new senor and optics they put on the 4S, so look at the back of your cases before you buy because you could get one that covers up the senor which could result in not getting the full effect of the 8mp camera. Also look at these screen protectors, the proximity sensor cut out is more open on one....hmm why did they do this? they both say for iphone 4 same as the cases but im thinking these are the for the 4S....what do you think?

I read somewhere that any case for the Verizon version of the iPhone 4 will fit the 4S.

No, the bigger opening was a change they made to their cases because the original ones caused glare when flash was used (on the iPhone 4). If I recall correctly, the new case design should fit all iPhone 4 and 4s models because they also enlarged the button openings along with the camera opening.

The 4s is identical in button / camera placement / design to the Verizon iPhone 4. Check out the comparison pics that were on Macrumors a few days ago.

they did that because they were unsure of camera placement on the 4s, so they left it large before the phone was released. Youll see newer speck cases soon with tighter holes around the cam and led light

This is correct. I have a case with the bigger hole that was made for iPhone 4. The flash problem was definitely the reason they enlarged the hole. That problem contributed to a decent amount of speculation that Apple would move the flash further away from the camera lens in the new model.

If you look at Speck's website, the big hole models are listed as fitting the 4 and the 4S.

Speaking of cases, I think I'll go check some out in the Verizon store tomorrow as I'm sure they'll be sold out quickly on Friday...

The bigger camera cutout in these Speck cases has been out there for a few months before the 4S was announced. If I recall correctly Apple had released new info to case mfgs stating what the new allowances for camera cut outs should be, I think this was a result of that.

If that's true, did some case manufacturers choose not to adhere? I ordered a skin guard from SGP and the hole cutout is much smaller than the Speck hole:

SGP Skin Guard

Edit: Incipio is another case company that has the smaller cutout. So are we to assume that those cases will interfere with the camera quality?

Can't find the link right now but here are all the specs from apple: http://developer.apple.com/resources/cases/

Interesting reading :)
