Be honest, if someone else had designed the Apple Watch as it appears today...

One of the first hands-on reviews (with nice photos) of the Apple Watch, notes that it does not easily fit under a shirt cuff.

I would suspect the same is true for the Moto 360.

That's because the author of that article is used to wearing a $40,000 Patek Phillip with a suit, which is on the thin side for automatic watches, as it is a dress watch. Most automatic sport watches are in the range of 10mm-13mm thick, which is inline with the Apple Watch's 12mm-13mm thickness. Some automatic diver watches get much thicker than that.

If you're used to the thickness of a Submariner, the thickness of the Watch or Moto 360 should be fine. The terrible thing about the Moto is the diameter. They'd need to shave at least 6mm off of the diameter before it looks good, to me. Most watches out there that are 46mm have a lot of bezel that makes the watch read smaller. The Moto's huge face looks pretty ridiculous on wrist.

Yeah that Moto 360's dial is really ridiculous.

Riiiiiight.

All the sudden everyone is a fashion expert.

The Moto360 is not a fashionable object. It's a piece of tech trying to be fashionable. I think it lacks the respect that Apple has for the history/fine details of what makes a watch a watch. Android Wear is so predictable. It's phone UI shrunk down to a square and cropped into a circle.

A circular display is a great technical feat for the 360 but it distracts from the rest of the watch which is nothing to write home about. They're cool, but circular displays are not the end all be all of smartwatch displays.

please tell me this image is photoshopped

i had no idea it was that big. who would want to wear that all day?? it has to be very uncomfortable.

At least for the first generation I don't think that'll be a big deal as most of the people who will buy it will do so for the purpose of showing it off and won't want to hide it.

It's so obvious that the Apple Watch lacks the aesthetics of other watches (Moto 360 and LG G Watch R), that it makes me wonder why some of you defend Apple on this and call it beautiful. Some of you are so incredibly blinded by your love for Apple it's ridiculous.

It looks flat out ugly to me. I'll probably buy one some day anyway but it really pales in comparison to its competitors on looks.

I wonder why there are so many us arguing personal taste. It's not that serious. The watch is square for a reason. I imagine if enough if you round lovers continue to complain about it, we will eventually get an answer as to why it's round from Tim and Ive.

There's two things that worry me about this watch

1. It's an expensive item to replace each year when a new one comes out with little expected resale value IMO
2. This is version one and no doubt by version 3 it will be worth buying

Thank you. Quite informative.

It's not. Google 'Moto360 hands on' and look under images and you'll see more of the same. People are drooling over the renders and seem oblivious to how it actually looks in use.

The thickness and shape really don't bother me that much. My every day watch is a Suunto Ambit which is thicker than a lot of things.

The deal breaker for me is the lack of water proofing. Why not seal the thing and make it so we are in the least able to go swimming with it. You have a fitness watch that you can't swim with. WTF??

I honestly don't think it's even close, and anyone who's handled an Apple Watch apparently thinks the same thing. The fit and finish of the Apple Watch is said to be quite a step up.

That Moto 360 is ridiculously large, comparatively, and I don't understand why a circle would make sense. Sure, it makes sense for an analogue watch, but I don't want a digital watch masquerading as an analogue watch. It's not really fooling anyone.

good point. lol at round watches

I love Apple. But I agree with the OP. People be sheeps.

I honestly thought about getting one while watching the Keynote Tuesday. But later that evening while I was on a run, I thought to myself, "What was I thinking". Apple is really good at brainwashing and getting people to drool over their products. It's sickening.

That being said, I'm really excited to get the iPhone 6!

As always, everyone is laser focused on the hardware. The software and eco system are what will differentiate Apple's offering from others in the long-run.

The iPad was pretty weak until the development community created compelling experiences and utility. The same will be true of the watch.

Patience...

This attitude irritates me. "People disagree with me, therefore they are sheep!" Ridiculous. If you have a criticism, make it without the accusation that people who don't share the same opinion are just brainless and following the company.

You do realize that the whole concept of beauty is relative? What you find attractive, others may find hideous. And vice versa.

Great point. I wear a Submariner (ceramic model) daily which is around 12 or 13mm in thickness without issue and I have a tiny 6.3" wrist size. For me I do not think the 38mm will be too hard to wear, even if it is under a cuff.

Regarding the Moto 360 I agree they need to shave off 4-6mm to make it really sharp. I have a feeling future smartwatches will have similar "digital crowns", possibly even a digital bezel to control some functions.

I don't think the iWatch is ugly, but it is nothing like the watches I wear daily. I like the analog dials and want nothing to do with a digital watch. The iWatch is a glorified digital watch. Not that it is a bad thing, it is just not my preference personally.

I have the opposite preference. In fact I can't stand analog clocks at all. I look at them the same way I do rotary dials and slide rules: an antiquated piece of technology that's just harder to use.

Not hard to use. Every clock in our house is analog, including a grandfather clock and cuckoo clock. I am just old school and like beautifully put together automatic movement swiss watches. I find it interesting that many of the younger generation can't read a dial watch. Comparing to slide rules? Digital and analog watches have been coexisting since the early 1980s. I hardly think slide rules coexisted with calculators very long.
