I just got my new i7 13" Macbook Air and I am experiencing freezing/beachballs all the time when using the mac app store and occasionally on a few other programs.
I initially presumed it was because I've barely used the machine but starting to think otherwise.

Has anyone experienced this or found it has stopped/reduced the more they used their MBA?

Thanks

For some reason I've always had slow downs on the Mac app store. Doesn't matter if it is 2010 or 2011 MBA either. Talk about something they would want running smoothly.

Mostly on the Mac app store. Sometimes when installing programs, but I only notice this using the app store. Guess its normal.

Only time i saw the beach ball is on the mac app store but i think that is because it has request program data and draw it into the app in real time.

Haven't seen beach balls elsewhere

I get the beach ball showing up in the App Store as well. Forgive my ignorance, but isn't that just like an hour glass in windows (or the spinning circle, whatever). Maybe it doesn't bother me because I put up with that kind of behaviour for so long with windows? heh

Yeah, I am also too used to windows. But after buying the latest MBA i was expecting it not to do this as I've got the i7 and reading about OS X.

Just happy to hear others are experiencing this as I was contemplating taking back my MBA.

I hope Apple release an update soon to fix this!

I don't have my MBA yet, but my Macbook Pro on Lion gets the beach ball when using the Mac App Store.

I'm pretty sure it is just because they are loading the data from the internet. It really shouldn't be using the beach ball though as that is usually indicative of an unresponsive task (Or an intensive task, such as applying a filter to a video, or something else processor/disk intensive).

Beachballs in the App Store have nothing to do with your machine - they have everything to do with the dynamic nature of the app store (everything is updated over the 'net on the fly) and your internet connection.

They could at least have the decency to throw the rendering in a background thread until its ready though, it's a bit frustrating.

Initial time machine backup wireless + anything= beach ball for me.

13" i7 256

I've noticed this too. I migrated my data from snow leopard, I hope that isn't causing the problem.

After using it now for nearly a week, I only get beachballs on the Mac App Store.

Guess we have to wait for the next update for lion!

I don't think Lion is the issue - it's the fact that so much of the content you see when you start the App Store is dynamic in nature.

It happens every time I open the appstore!

Do you think they will fix it in the next software update?

Happens with Final Cut Pro X as well, it completely hangs with beachballs too often !

Read some think its a Lion issue.

I think its a more expected on Final Cut Pro X as it a much more demanding program than the Mac App Store.

Does anyone know what this lion update (10.7.2) on the internet is about?
Is it a leak or a GM version before it is publicly released?

MacApp Store on Lion is at fault.

I get same with my Octo MacPro. It was grand in the GM, but in the retail release and the MBA version of lion the App Store seemingly has to reload everything each time you open and go from one app and back to main screen.

This will no doubt be sorted in a Lion update.

I suspect the main problem has been the wireless network for me. Initialising Time Machine and iTunes over wifi took hours.

iTunes beachballed all the time whilst setting up libraries etc. It works now but I still dread its appearance.

You can fix it.

But by that train of thought the iTunes store should also beach ball. I've never had a problem browsing the iTunes music or App store. The Mac App Store is the only thing that causes my new MBA to beach ball.
