I'm sure if it's clean you won't have any problems. Then again you never know. Maybe the interviewer was once robbed by a man with a beard.

it depends on the nature of the work, some job is need mature man, so it wouldn' t symbolize of untidy. perhaps for your interview bonus, right?

Keep the beard. I had no problem getting a job with mine....it was a goatee, at the time. Having a beard is no obstacle to getting a job. If it is, for any specific interview, then that is a clear indication that you are better off without being at that company, anyway. When you are looking for a job, one of the most important things is that it is a proper "fit" for you. If you are not comfortable being who you are...and they don't accept you for the "real" you, then move on. You will ultimately not be satisfied with that job (at that company) in the long run.

Just make sure that you are properly groomed. The beard should be trim and well kept. A messy beard, like messy hair or crinkled clothes can have a negative perceptive impact. But a neat beard, like neat hair is perfectly fine.

Well after running away to grad school for two years it's time for job interviewing again. Since the last time I interviewed(years and years ago) I've decided to grow a beard, but at least according to my very conservative mother this is a big no-no when interviewing.

It's 2011, are beard-havers still discriminated against? Do interviewers even care any more as long as the facial hair is groomed and not off the wall? Anyone here do the bearded interview?

Thanks and beard power!

I think we're all going to need a picture so that we can all judge you on your beard. I've seen guys with very nice beards and I'd never consider the beard a detriment. But I've seen other guys who's beards make me wonder if they ever lost anyone in there.

It really depends but on the clear cut "yes/no" to a beard I'd say shave it. Particularly if you think you'll be self conscious about it during an interview. You don't want any dumb things getting in the way of your focus during an interview.

I have done several interviews with men who have beards and it really depends on their specific requirements and skill sets that I determine whether or not to hire them. Very rarely is the case where the beard makes the decision, but if they are less likely to get hired the beard will certainly not help them. If I think they are good candidates and they have a beard that is scraggily or very large, I will ask if it is a problem they trim it down some. Having a beard and keeping one trimmed and professional looking are two different things.

Face piercings are more likely to affect whether or not you get hired over a beard. Hell, I have even given some people discounts on their order's with the reason being "an awesome beard/mustache".

Keep your beard and if they don't want one, is it the type of place you want to work at? A lot of it could depend on the field.

I can see if you are in the military, in most instances, where they say "no" to beards. I have also seen it in a religious context where it's not allowed, or is encouraged in other religious contexts. Are either of those contexts yours?

I did know a Greek Orthodox clegyman without a beard, which was interesting but that's the breaks and if somebody has an issue with that, they may find themselves behind the times. ;)

Anyway, in my field, computers/high-tech, a beard is very, very common, he he, sometimes extraordinary facial hair among some female members can be common in the field.

Too lazy to shave = too lazy to work...

I had a beard for a couple of months, I said screw that it was a pain in the neck keeping it neat and clean.
Much easier staying clean shaven.

I am in the interview loop right now.
I see plenty of candidates with neat and tidy goatees and full beards.
However, I did over hear interviewers making comments about one candidate with one of the pencil thin beards.

Keep it clean an dneat and I don't see a problem keeping it as long as its your natural hair color

I don't know if a pencil thin beard is all that bad, but I had to tell this guy proper attire was the key thing. I don't think he got a copy of dress for success but he did well in the end.
