Beatles on iTunes? Maybe Not Yet...

We previously reported on Page 2 about reports that Paul McCartney has reached a $400 million agreement with iTunes for the distribution of the Beatles' back catalog.

Word spread quickly about the imminent deal, but today, Apple actually denied the claim according to Billboard:
"This is not news nor is it a scoop," says an Apple Inc. spokesman, declining further comment.

Rumors of the Beatles appearing on iTunes have persisted for years with Steve Jobs specifically targeting "the first half" of 2008 in an interview with USA Today. Paul McCartney had also felt "pretty sure it'll be happening [in 2008]".

That wasn't really a denial.

It just seemed that Apple didn't want to discuss it because something's about to happen at any time, maybe.

We will see. I think it will happen, maybe not this year, but definitely next.
 
I'd like to see a poll on who would actually buy Beatles music when it is put onto iTunes.

I personally wouldn't. I have most of it already.
 
Of Course Apple will Deny

They will make a huge event out of this. It would make sense that all the other players would also be keeping quiet, or deny a deal has been reached, as part of the terms of agreement.
 
I think I may be too young because I have never purchased any Beatles songs nor do I plan to. I'm not attracted to their music.

But I guess they must mean a lot to some people. So cheers to them if iTunes fulfills their musical desire.
 
Seriously?! This is still going on?

Who cares?!

Why, after what seems like 5 years, do the Beatles and/or the people in charge of their assets (aka "Paul") still have difficulty with iTunes?

Keep it on Page 2 (or 3 or 10). :D
 
Sad for all the Beatles' fans out there, but not me. The bottomline, I will be happy if it makes iTunes the #1 music retailer.
 
I'm young, I love The Beatles, but I own all of their CDs, and even all of their original records. I don't think many Beatles fans would buy the Beatles on iTunes, but, think about this.
Across The Universe (the movie) got a lot of new Beatles fans. They wouldn't really want to buy the CDs but would probably be more than willing to pay on iTunes for a couple songs.
Well that's my opinion.
 
Digital Beatles is no Revolution

In an effort to extract any and all available sales from decades of vinyl and CD production, the holding company for The Beatles will shoot itself in the proverbial foot by the time the music is finally sold digitally. There will, in fact, be very little market for what once could have been quite successful. After all, anyone who wants to listen to The Beatles on their MP3 player has already made a digital copy.

Ultimately, WHO CARES ANYMORE? If you like Beatles, chances are you already have all the CDs imported into your iTunes library anyways -- if you don't like them their sudden appearance on iTunes won't make you love them.

I'm not arguing over the Beatles are good or bad (I personally am not a big fan of them) - but come on, this crap has this rumored atleast 50 times since launch of the iTMS. No matter how good they are, this overhyped crap is getting annoying.

Again I ask, WHO CARES ANYMORE?

Please explain it to me -- just w/o the whole 'they were revolutionary' 'they're the best band ever' routine - cause thats 40 years old too

So there are actually people out there who don't own any beatles music because they are waiting for it to be released on itunes??? because that would be pathetic.
 
The Beatles on iTunes is only slightly more likely to occur than Microsoft releasing AV support for MSN Messenger for Mac, Duke Nukem Forever coming out, or Apple releasing the PowerBook G5. Who knows when it will actually happen.

Of course maybe it'll come this Tuesday ;).
 
I have most of their albums, but I've been having to pace myself buying the rest because of pricing. I would rather have the physical media, but getting it from iTunes would be the next best thing.

The good thing about this really is the fact that they will have been remastered (for a second time, IIRC). That is the best part of this whole thing.
 
Actually it has taken too long but not because they (like AC DC and several other bands) s dislike iTunes or digital downloads, but the Beatles masters have been going through a very long and over due restoration and remastering process. The Beatles' Apple is so slow and do projects one by one it seems. They did the Love project which remastered some of the songs beautifully and the 5.1 mixes are astounding. You all should hear A Day in the life and Strawberry Fields in surround. They also just did the HELP DVD remaster and so on. Yes it has taken too long but should happen this year. It is the repackaged CDs I am waiting for. The original CDs came out in 86 and are thin sounding and bad. They wanted to wait and not put the old bad versions on iTunes.
 
This is dumb. The beatles catalog will become available after McCartney's Divorce to heather mills is final. Why would he go and generate all that income and then give her the rights to half of it?

Plain and simple this is a matter of keeping Heather Mills away from this money. They will deny and deny and say it will never happen until she signs the paper saying the deal is done and will not pursue him for additional money.

You want the Beatles on iTunes? Murder Heather Mills. The release will follow.
