This is dumb. The beatles catalog will become available after McCartney's Divorce to heather mills is final. Why would he go and generate all that income and then give her the rights to half of it?

Plain and simple this is a matter of keeping Heather Mills away from this money. They will deny and deny and say it will never happen until she signs the paper saying the deal is done and will not pursue him for additional money.

You want the Beatles on iTunes? Murder Heather Mills. The release will follow.

The McCartney Mills divorce decision by the Judge will be decided in about two weeks so yeah, an announcement could come soon after that.

I like the Beatles and all but I won't really regard it as an "accomplishment" when/if they finally end up on iTunes.

This whole distribution controversy is just getting tired. Or it is making me tired. Something. It is 2008 and people are still in negotiations for getting their catalog distributed digitally when it is already (illegally) distributed on every P2P network known to man, and can be bought in DRM free format on something called a CD from just about any store?

In the whole period of many years that all this stuff became a hot topic, I've gotten married, had a kid, and life has went on. You just can't say it enough- it is 2008! I'm starting to feel like there is no end in site.

In the meantime, I've retreated from mainstream music and now enjoy a life listening to lesser known artists... some on iTunes, some I have to order their CDs, and some it is easier just to buy a CD from them at a live show.

Right on target; But the settlement is near!

Who the h*ll cares? Seriously. I'm so sick of hearing about the Beatles on iTunes - or anywhere else for that matter. Yeah, they were a phenomenon and influenced countless others. Gotta love them for that, but a $400 million dollar deal today? Just rip your old Beatles CDs and get on with life. This is insanity.

"This is not news nor is it a scoop," says an Apple Inc. spokesman, declining further comment.

Guess that guy has his head on his shoulders. TBH, anyone who cares for the beetles that much already has the content in their library and on their ipods.
Last time I checked, Mr. Jackson owned the rights to the Beatles. I don't keep track though.

Jackson only owns a portion of the publishing of the songs. He and Sony get money for plays or when someone covers the songs. He has no rights at all to the Beatles recordings in any way but when they sell he'll get a few pennies.

I don't really care for the Beatles but I gotta wonder why this has been going on for so long, almost 2 years?

for anyone who thinks people won't buy beatles songs -- you are out of your mind. i'm sure there will be TONS of sales of beatles songs, for the exact same reason the iTunes store is successful to begin with. People will want a song or two, and not all the albums. I would consider myself a Beatles fan, but don't own all their albums. And I'm sure I will buy a few singles when the catalog is available.

Thanks. I knew he had some hand in it.

I would take a few pennies on $400mil over my salary anyday :)

Ultimately, WHO CARES ANYMORE? If you like Beatles, chances are you already have all the CDs imported into your iTunes library anyways -- if you don't like them their sudden appearance on iTunes won't make you love them.

I don't have the CDs and I like the beatles.

And this is news? Why?

You ( and others ). The Beatles are still very much liked. You may not like the group, but, yes, others DO!!
Apple are not here to serve *your* needs and requirements.

Getting Beatles online is a major , especially if its an exclusive agreement.

i will buy The Beatles albums again ONLY if they are remixed/remastered by Sir George Martin...how awesome would that be if they were the quality of LOVE :):D

is American idol a big enough stage forcthis announcement? This week they are doing "McCartney and lennon" music. (beetles) and being all the songs sung on idol are on iTunes EG what a day to announce it... Oh and it is a Tuesday so I say it is a go

Most people that like the Beatles already have them. I do not see the point. If those number are correct, this sounds like a bad deal. Even if the deal was for iTunes to sell all the music and iTunes was keeping every single penny, it is still too much money. There are millions of songs in iTunes, other artist go not get that kind of deal, I do not understand what makes Apple believe it is a good proposition.

Big deal. Who cares. If it was 400 million they would need to sell a half billion song or more for Apple to break even. I wish they would just release the music and be done with it so we can get on with more relevant rumors instead of beating this dead horse.

Then I hope macrumours will stop posting 'pointless' AT&T iPhone related rumours.

Who cares.

Most of the catalog is now 40 years old so the average listener is probably around 55-60. Are they going to spend enough to cover Apple's cost? Doesn't seem like they would.

Beatles News that's now Bugging

forgive the lame title to my response, its late and I
wacked out!
Talking about lame, this news is not news at all. I like some Beatles music but I couldn't care less whether it was available on iTunes or not. Like most bands they were really overated. Let's move onto some actual news and if there is none well nothing wrong with a quiet spell is there?
