He's actually not that talented. Ask anyone who really knows EDM and they'll tell you Deadmau5 is just a hack.. a copy/paste producer as he's always recycling the same sound of his over and over again. There's a reason why he hates Markus Schulz; the guy made a track called 'Very Exactly' under a pseudonym 'Deadrat6' which sound A LOT like any generic Deadmau5 track. When Joel Zimmerman found out about this during a gig in Toronto where BOTH of them were scheduled to play the same night, he threw a fit and refused to DJ if Markus was going to play as well.

Or how about that time when he produced samples for Fruity Loops as part of the stock package that came with the purchase of Fruity Loops. When some guy produced a track that used those loops LEGALLY, Joel threw a fit and demanded they stop and wanted to take further action (can't remember if he wanted to sue or something).

Joel Zimmerman is a diva... anyone that respects this guy either doesn't know how much of a douchebag he is simply has no integrity to be associated with such an egomaniac.

I don't think you're correct. It's not Markus Schulz, I think you're referring to Marcus Schossow.

I'm not the biggest fan of deadmau5 but I do really like some of his songs - this may actually be the first thing that gets me to listen to Beats 1!

Also - why all the hate??

Couldn't care less.

Upvoting you for not saying "Could care less". That, and neither could I.

Wow, I can't think of anything I'd rather listen to less.

Maybe Fran Drescher and Yoko Ono singing while dragging nails across a chalkboard, but that's a tossup.

You know, I get some people dig this and if I'm not the demographic, then cool, I won't listen. But what I DO wish is that Apple starts to cater to some of it's admittedly smaller group of people who wouldn't mind a jazz-focused show, or some kind of 70s channel or singer-songwriter stuff. I've listened to Beats 1 for all of 20 minutes, and I get it--it's not for me. How about launching Beats 2 for people who know how to spell and don't go by aliases? It's been a year, give us something different.

...and get off my lawn.

This is the first Apple Music news that's made me possibly interested in trying it. But until it can match di.fm, I doubt I'd ever become a subscriber.

It's not, just some thing that an artist decided to do, as has been done by mani artists for many years. Nothing really all that new.

Yes it's still a thing because it isn't English. I happen to know how to read that stupid **** because I am a gamer and have teens. Otherwise nope, because it's stupid crap that isn't English.
If say that the vast majority of those who know what online forums are let alone actually posts in them knows about all that stuff or at the very least can easily connect the dots, so to say.

Really? Not knowing how to read "deadmau5" is still a thing? Are you people in your 70s?
I'm just under half that age range. I know the 5 is meant to be an S. I'm completely aware of how the name is intended to be pronounced.

And despite knowing all that, I still can't stop myself from reading it in my head as "Deadmau five".

wasnt he one of those TIDAL "movement" supporters, thats surprising

just what I was about to say! Wonder what happened there.

I thought he was on Tidal lol. I guess he realized how unpopular it was and jumped ship.

And one-by-one they are leaving Tidal, which quickly went from the #1 free app to nowhere-to-be-found on the list.
Perhaps the stream was going down?

Popular music producer and performer Joel Thomas Zimmerman, most popularly known as deadmau5, is set to join Apple Music's Beats 1 radio station this Friday. The 35-year-old artist will have his own show, called "mau5trap presents," debuting at 3PM PST on Friday, March 18.

Besides the announcement tweet via the Beats 1 account, no other specifics regarding the content of mau5trap presents were given. Still, considering the genre and work Zimmerman is known for, there will probably be a heavy focus on electronic dance music in the show. It's also unclear whether or not Zimmerman will be given a recurring presence on Beats 1 or if mau5trap presents is a one-off performance.

Who?

Wonder how many of us are using Beats 1?
Apple have a insurmountable problem on their hands being the worlds largest corporate trying to pander to the peccadilloes of the worlds coolest young people. Zane Lowe was incredible on BBC Radio1, a real coup for Apple to get him heading things up, I just don't see how it is possible for one person's musical taste to infect the entire world.

You have very one-sided, biased impression about him. Sorry, but stop being a hater, ok? I like his music, he is one of the greatest electronic music producers and just because a lot of people hate him is a good thing actually, he is not mainstream, and that is the "thing" about him. He is nothing like "CD players" as Skrillex, Avicii, Martin Garrix kid and super money-bag Tiesto. He does not care about anything, but you should not be worried about that. He is a persona, an internet character, who lives in a million dollar mansion, has tons of cool cars, sexy girlfriend, plays and streams games, actually expresses honest opinions about whatever on Twitter, and produces music, even if it is recycled, WHO CARES, really? He lives pretty much everyone's dream life.
No he is not a perfect person or someone to like. He is just a counterweight to all stupidity, mainstream and boring CD-playing that is going on in EDM culture.
