I bought my Beats Wireless headphones for about $50 plus tax. Gotta love company discounts.

Audio Technica ATH-M50 are the best headphones you can get for the money. Usually around $130 new, if you go with a distributor like Sound Professionals you get a pair of factory modded ones with a removable cable ala the Beats Pro's for about $150.

I made an impulse buy on beats studio and made the right decision to not open and return it. I'm going to get the m50 in the near future.

I assume you are thinking of buying the Beats because of its asthetics and "hip-ness" which is ok since that's a personal preference. The Beats DO sound good but theyre crap for their price even if they do look cool.

Anyways, check out the V-Moda m100's, they were just released. Theyre around 300$ but they look nice and it's made of metal AND theyve been praised for their sound by audiophiles.

Audio Technicia M-50's are also really nice

I jut picked up a pair of Vmoda M100 in matte black. They have a cable with mic, and another cable with a split on it to hook up another pair of cans for someone else.

I'm in the same situation as the original poster and I have been reading reviews. I was really liking the Mixr's until I realized that they weren't over the ears and now unfortunately for my wallet I'm really liking the Pros. The one review that I viewed was actually extremely insightful about the Pros. The reviewer mentioned that if you are using an ipod or even an iphone as your main device that you are listening to music from, the device will not have enough power out put to the headphones (since they do not have battery power like the studios or executives) and the Pro's may be a bit of overkill for that device. He later mentioned that if you are using a laptop or computer that the device is able to generate enough power for the Pro's to sound good. Just food for thought as I'm contemplating what I want to do in this situation EVEN though beats are extremely overpriced for their sound quality.

Just bought the beats tour with volume control and mic for 99$ here in Canada, original price was 199$ they sound very good but not for 199$.

I would just like to say that I find the bashing of Beats and Bose to be rather hilarious.

It's kind of in style to say that these products are terrible. The lion's share of people bashing the two brands have never even listened to a pair of either, they just know that saying disparaging things about Beats and Bose somehow qualifies you as an "audiophile".

I've got a pair of Beats Pro and I also have a pair of PSB M4U 2 (the PSB, IMO, is the best headphone available in this price range)...while the PSB definitely boasts a bigger soundstage than the Beats Pro, the Pro is very, very good and this cannot be disputed by anyone who has listened to the product.

I have not really auditioned the less expensive models in the Beats lineup, but I would have to assume that many of the opinions of Beats come from dissatisfaction with the Solo or Studio line. Anyone who says that the Beats Pro is junk simply doesn't know what they are talking about or they are trying to make it appear that they have an uncommon discerning ear.

FWIW, if you can pick up a pair of the PSB M4U 1 or 2, I think you would find this the most pleasing set of headphones available for under $400.

The fact people are so hateful towards beats just makes me laugh.

Anyways I bought the new Studios and was very impressed with them, although it took a week or so for my ears to adjust. I wouldn't recommend the pros, they are very heavy because of the material used. Executives are a sad excuse for headphones, they were nothing compared to the studios when I tried them in store.

fixed.

And I dont think people "hate beats". I personally just laugh at anyone using them to listen to music OR wearing them for fashion.

So many other better options for 1/3 the cost.

Not sure if this post is even still relevant based on the original question.

I recently swapped the Bose QC 15s for the new Beats Studios v2 (2013 model) and I have been very happy, especially paired with my new 5S 64GB.

I know it is easy to pile on Beats but if you are interested, at least give them a listen. I think they improved greatly over the original Beats Studios and the rechargable battery is a nice feature.

I also own the B&W P5s and Audio Technica M50s so I use have heard some of the best in that price range.

The Pros look nice but they seem severly overpriced.
