Why is it that I can buy a brand of computer that simply is not apple that has twice the power and speed and pay less than half the price?

Because you don't know anything about computers or operating systems. You can compare hardware specs all day but they do not compare across OSs. You may have bought a computer that you think has twice the power and speed but in the end its not going to be "double" the speed of the Mac.

Mind you I'm a windows tech by trade and I've set up a ton of windows systems from laptops to high end workstations to servers. I have far more windows experience then mac experience but I can tell you hands down that unless your a gamer the mac is the better buy for performance and stability.

Beats by Dre

Good headphones. not worth the price. Sennheiser, audio Technica....stick with the well known brands. If you want buds over cans, look at Shure, Westone or check out my friends at Fidelity Custom Earphones

I don't personally think they are. Which is why I bought mine on craigslist for a very reduced price. You should try this.

Only the Beatz Tour. only those. Whatever you do never buy the "iBeats" they're a piece of......

Just a word of warning to anyone buying beats online from eBay/Craigslist.

Most of these are fakes from China that are exact replicas. Beware of low prices as these are scams!

As have been said before, go to an actual audio store and try the different brands, AND models, with your music. I ended up with Beyerdynamic DT770 after trying a bunch of headphones.

Great Headphones

I own these headphones and I love them. I listened to others and to me these were my favorite which is all that matters. These are the first headphones I've ever had that require a battery for the built-in amplifier.
Happy camper here!

That makes me curious which other headphone brands and models you tried. If you only went to an Apple store then you're missing a huge portion of the headphone market. Even for the high quality brands they do carry, such as Sennheiser, they'll have only 2 or 3 models on their low end for the average consumer.

You need to go to a decent audio store and talk with someone older than 25. I found this helpful for explaining headphone shopping...

They are WAY overpriced and the quality sucks. Their idea of sound isolation is pushing white noise into the drivers to cancel outside sounds (hence the reason there is a battery). Try your local music store (guitar center or Sam ash) if you a pair of GOOD pro quality headphones. They won't be the best but they will not cost you $300 either.

I have been in the audio field for many years and I DJ'ed for 21 years, if you are looking for a pair that will take a beating try Sonys DJ headphones. I can't remember the model number but it should not be to hard to find. They are true isolation headphones that reproduce the full spectrum, and they will last forever.

Hope this helps.

Shure In Ear SE535's are the only ones for me!

Those were my last expensive pair before I sold them and got some UM3Xs for the second time. I completely loved those phones though... the mids were so powerful... forward, smooth; it sounded like they were only 5 feet in front of me.

Alas, as a freshman in college (last semester), I couldn't justify having a portable system worth 1000 dollars. Especially when my only computer was an Asus netbook :p

Yet another +1 to sennheiser.

I love my HD 380 headphones, however, as far as I can tell, the iPod isn't actually powerful enough to drive them; to hear their full range, you need to use an amp. (in other words, they actually do have bass, contrary to your first impression).

Stay away from them. All you're paying for is the brand, their headphones are absolute rubbish both sound wise and quality wise. They break very easily, I was talking to a friend that works at my local Best Buy and he said they have to replace their demo units 3 times a month, granted they ARE demo units so they'll get more abuse than usual but their other demo unit headphones rarely if ever, break and need replacement. As suggested, go with some Sennheisers, heck even some sub-$150 Bose AE2's are of better quality overall than $300 Beats.

Don't do it. As others have said, stick with Sennheiser, beyerdynamic, audio-technica, or shure.

For in ears, i recommend the Sennheiser IE8...they are amazing.

Shure In Ear SE535's are the only ones for me!

Ah, interesting post, tell me more, please.

Do you actually have them - what are your experiences with them? I am currently looking for an excellent set of head-phones and a friend recommended Shure 420 or 530 (but this was 18 months ago). The 535's look interesting and I am seriously thinking of getting a pair - so, I suppose I am asking whether they are really worth the asking price? They have received excellent reviews, I know.

Cheers

Absolutely. I know this wasn't directed at me but out of all of the headphones I owned: Sennheiser 555, Equation RP-21
UE Super Fi 5 v2, PFE 112, Triple Fi 10, UM3X, K702, ER4P
Shure SE535, UM3X (Redux),

I think the SE535s were the most engaging and the most enjoying to listen to. The 535s, UM3Xs, and the K702s were the best, IMO. The SEs give AMAZING isolation and comfort; I could listen to music for hours on end; and I did too... at least 5 hours non stop.

They are mid oriented so it takes some getting used to... most headphones have a slight U shaped signature... giving emphasis to the bass and treble. It might take some time but after they grow on you, you won't put them down.

The cable is amazing; I got the clear model. I think I have some pictures laying around here somewhere.... although i might have deleted them :/

But yea, they sound best with classical, vocal, new age, acoustic.... and jazz.... anything outside of that area (hip hop/rap is good but those genres don't do the IEMs justice) isn't really worth spending 500 on IEMs for.

It might have been mentioned already, but check out Headphone.com some great reviews there.

I personally prefer flat headphones, so I grabbed up a pair of Shure SRH440's, leaves something to be wanted in the low/bass but amazing build quality, feels like I could throw them around and they would take it.

Thanks for taking the time and the trouble to post such a detailed reply on this. Much appreciated.

I have had IE Bose, & Sennheiser - both of which were good, but not spectacular, and I really am anxious to get a really good, comfortable pair that give an excellent listening experience. Anyway, I don't like hip-hop, so that issue does not arise, whereas I do like classical, vocal, new age, acoustic, trad, and jazz, very much indeed.

Thanks, for the reference, I must do that.

Thanks, also, for the reference to the SEH 440s- I must check them out.

Again, thanks to you both, much appreciated.

Cheers

I don't know where you're looking... $300? I can get a pair for $149.99 at my local Staples. (Yea, STAPLES - of all places...)

And they actually sound hella good. (At least the can version)

Man, I really cringed there.
