why do apple branded usb cables snap into place. no other cables do this. personally i do find apple cables better for this reason. i imagine the beats ones will have this proper snap when inserted. even anker doesn't get the cables right

These are not even very good cables. They are rated for 60W. Go to Amazon and buy the cables rated for 200W for less. You can use those to charge yor laptop, not just the phone.

I just bought one. USB A to USB C. I got the ultra short one to replace one I got on Amazon that seems to have trouble being recognized by Carplay 100% of the time and hoping an OEM cable will solve that problem.
I have the JXMOX 60W 12-inch braided USB-C to USB-C cable from Amazon in my car to run CarPlay and fast charge my phone and it works just fine while only costing $6 for two cables (so I have a spare in case the first one fails which it hasn’t in more than six months).

My car has a built-in wireless charger with wireless CarPlay connectivity but it’s terribly slow when charging my phone while inside a case so I prefer using a short cable instead.

JXMOX also makes the same braided cable in USB-A to USB-C, 12-inch length which costs $7 for three or $6 for three in the six-inch length.

I don’t think the Beats cables will work any better while costing nearly $20.

I myself use Anker for USB C to USB C cables. I get the braided version for longevity reasons (unbraided cables tend to last 18-24 months at most). And they're definitely way cheaper than the Beats-branded cables.

I could take a dump on a plate and serve it to you for just $2.99, which would certainly be a value compared to a lot of places you could go to lunch. But the quality would be lacking. No different from those Amazon cables. The quality isn’t there.
Or you could take a dump on a plate and sell it for $18.99, which would be no different than the quality and value of these overpriced cables.

Chances are they're coming off the same production line that makes $2.99 cables, you're paying $16 for the ugly logo.

No you’re not. The plastic cap on the end of the cheap cables is well cheap and crappy, usually bigger and less streamlined. Not to mention they don’t fit as smoothly and don’t have the click.

I charge my MBP on a 35 watt charger. I also charge my watch and iPhone connected to the MBP. Everything charges just fine while I sleep. A 200 watt cable, charging at 200 watts, 5 volts, is 40 amperes. That is a lot of current for a 28 gauge wire or smaller.

It should be noted that the Beats cables are longer than Apple cables, with the exception of the 2 meter cable. The Beats cables have strain relief at the connectors, Apple cables do not. As for Amazon cables, is it really reasonable to use cheap, possibly poorly constructed, cables on an expensive device. Paying a thousand plus for a device then skimping $10 on a cheap cable, less than 1% of the device cost, is not wise in my opinion. Cheap cables are cheap for a reason.

I seriously doubt there’s anything special to these Beats USB 2.0 cables that you won’t find in any other cheaper brand. Just make sure any cable you use is rated for the wattage of your charger and device and you’ll be fine. I always buy 100 watt ones which I use throughout my place for anything from my Beats Pill to my MacBook Pro M4 Pro. In my case they’re braided Baseus cables. Superb quality, lovely design and only €6-7 on AliExpress.

The item description mentions that this is made from "fine woven" materials. Is there any chance Apple is repurposing the same "fine woven" material that was widely criticized in their phone cases a couple of years ago for these charging cables?

This is so unnecessary and so overpriced. You can get an Amazon Basics USB-A to USB-C cable on Woot for $2.99. It’s not woven, but you can replace it 5 times before spending the same on one of these, and still have a dollar left.

And wow, I just realized they’re charging $19 for an 8 inch cable. Pathetic.

Edit: I underestimated how many people are willing to buy a $19 charging cable. To each their own. I’m sure it’s a good cable. Just a horrible value.

Even with a tariff of 145% against China, these Woot cables are still cheaper.

To be honest, Amazon Basics cables really are some garbage.
Said that, I can’t see a reason for a Beats branded cable at all, especially because the brand itself is driving the price up.
