I just got an iPad Pro 10.5 with the university summer sale Apple offers, I got a Beats X with it. Since it has Apple W1 chip, I thought that simply turning it on near my iPad would pop the window. But I didn't get any window. I tried it over and over, but it didn't pop up. I had to pair it like a regular Bluetooth headphones. Though, it quickly synced with my Mac. Does the W1 pairing only work with an iPhone?

I'm in the exact same situation, only difference is I ordered the 12.0-inch. I'm so dissapointed that I have to do it manually.

If you have an iPhone you can paid it the quick way with your iPhone. It'll then quickly and happily sync with your beats.

I've found that if I turn mine on, even if not paired to my iPad, if in range I can select them from the airplay button depending which app I'm using

Yep, think it only works with iPhone. When I was trying the same thing, beatsx with 10.5pro, nothing on the iPad, but the auto pairing box popped up on my wife's nearby iPhone 6 instead!

Well, at least it works fast after pairing. And it sounds good. And it looks decent. I'm not really disappointed. I got the Powerbeats 2 last year with the sale. They broke so easily. Beats X doesn't have like sweat-proofing or something, but they look more durable to me. Time will tell, I'll use the weird but cool case to carry my headphones this time. I also recommend you to use the case, Beats are still plastic

They may not have 'sweat-proofing or something', but I can testify that you can wash them and they will still work. So I wouldn't dismiss their undocumented water resistance. Will I wash them again? Not intentionally ( again ), but I am pleasantly surprised.

Whoa. I've accidentally washed my old EarPods multiple times but would never dream of that happening with my BeatsX. Glad to hear they held up though. HAHA!

i noticed the automatic pairing, too. It's great, but I wonder if it always auto-pair if I connect them to my iPhone and then back to the iPad...

You just need to keep the power button pressed, it will then pop up on your ipad pro.
Its doing it on my iPad pro 10.5 at least, but I'm running the latest ios 11 beta
