Anyone with a 13 Pro, have you got a case for it? And with that case, when you place the phone on the table, do you get an (unstable) wobble? Or is it at least stable enough so that it will rest not flush, but without a wobble?

Asking for a friend.

Haven’t these phones all wobbled since the introduction of the protruding camera bump?
My, uh, friend says that the earlier camera bumps were easily flushed with a case, like his current 2020 SE. But the 13 Pro (and perhaps the 13 and 12?) camera bump PLUS the lens protrusion has got to be too deep for that. And the original camera bumps were one lens, essentially creating a triangular contact: the bottom of the phone and the single point of the camera bump, whereas with these phones the bump plateau is much wider, perhaps making it more of a trapezoidal (and perhaps more stable) contact? Might lead to at least some stability, enough for it to feel stable enough.

I agree - just setting up my iPhone 13 Pro and got the original leather case. The camera protrudes quite a lot more than on the iPhone 12 Pro with similar cover.

The bump really does take some getting used to. It's the first iPhone in a long time, where I've thought the aesthetics are not "all there". No doubt, it's a great phone (as always) but hmm :)

Wouldn't it depend on what case he gets?

OK, so...when you have the case on, and you place it on the table, what makes contact? The bottom edge of the bump (rather the case around it), or the protruding lens?

That's true, I suppose if you're getting traditionally thick cases like tough armor-style ones, then this isn't an issue. But for something like a standard leather case, or clear case, or whatever. I am sure there are still differences, you're right. For the moment I guess we can only tell my friend about the Apple case, for anyone that got one.

Nothing wrong with this one

Now that MacRumors members have received their iPhone 13 and had a chance to buy a case for it...

Which specific cases have you found that stop the iPhone 13 from wobbling on a table?

I can appreciate that Apple is building such kickass cameras that functionally they need to protrude from the body of the iPhone. But what I don't understand is, why do case manufacturers not include a designed-in element that levels the iPhones top end. If well designed, this asymetrical protrusion wouldn't have to interfere with streamlining pocket insertion, or by adding significant weight or bulk to the case. This seems like case design 101 to me.

(So far I have only seen a friend's iPhone 13 Mini Spigen Thin Fit case which fully wobbles, so I would like to hear of a non-wobbling case option.)

I have the Caudabe Sheath on my 13 Pro. I just tried setting the phone on my desk and using it, went through several different apps. It will wobble if you deliberately push firmly on the upper left hand corner of the phone, but while using it normally it never felt wobbly or unstable. The light touch/taps needed in normal usage of the phone don't affect it in the least.

Sure, if I'm going to sit here and purposely and repeatedly push on that upper left hand corner I can make it wobble - but I'm not that OCD about things. It's plenty stable in actual practical use, unless you're using an app that makes you forcefully push down on the top left of your phone over and over.

Never going commando with how much a 13 Pro Max 512GB costs. I would use the slimmest rugged case that you are comfortable with. Now, the Otterbox Defender Pro gets a bad rap on bulkiness but they have slimmed down. Zagg invisibleshield Glass XTR tempered glass screen protector as well. Ultimately, I want to try the Rhinoshield Suit or the Simply Carbon Fiber Armor series or even a Pelican case..Ever since my Blackberry 8310 tumbled down two flights of concrete stairs, my smartphones have had a case. Only added a tempered glass screen protector for my 12 Pro Max. Love how pristine my devices look at trade-in time from an appearance and value perspective.

Love the Caudabe sheath line. It’s been my favorite case for the past 4 years. This year I thought I would try something different and I liked the aesthetics of the Otterbox Aneu. It’s okay, feels protective but there is definitely a wobble and its bulkier then the Caudabe‘s I’ve had in the past. I may still get a sheath at some point :)

Ya know, I'm just gonna make things real easy here...

I know that there are iPhone cases that don't correct the wobble, such as those that you each describe above - - however I am interested in finding out whether any manufacturer has designed their case to stop the wobble.

Even if you use the iPhone 13 bareback it will wobble in the same way, when pushing on the upper left hand corner of the screen (or the bottom left hand corner of the screen in landscape). For your use-cases, you seem to be comfortable with a small amount of wobble, but I don't think it is necessary for you to suggest that you need a diagnosis of OCD to find the wobble bothersome while playing a game on your iPhone while it is lying on a table.

It just seems like such an easy fix for a case manufacturer to design an appropriately placed molded rise to balance the camera bump. It seems like it would be a nice marketing angle amongst all the buying options that iPhone 13 users have for cases.

Be advised, the SolidSuit is very slippery.

Otterbox Defender Pro is the slimmest in years, has micro-dot grip on sides and framing the backside, and provides maximum protection with zero wobble. It's also easily pocketable.

I have an Oh Snap! (similar to a pop socket but flatter and magnetic and I like it better) on it which stick out further than the phone so my phone actually rests on that.

Instead of a discussion of justifications for why a small wobble is not a problem, I finally found a proper discussion of iPhone 13 cases that actually don't wobble on Reddit.

The Ringke Onyx is an example:

FINALLY. Tysm, that's what we were waiting for, not getting into a full debate whether having your phone wobbling is irrelevant or not. I just want my phone to lay flat on the table, period. I couldn't care less about the bulkiness, as long as my cameras are protected, I'll be fine.
