I also have an unregistered copy of the Orangeware wireless software that I was trying to use for a Netgear card.
Could there be a conflict?
To deinstall this software requires logging in as root user.
Unfortunately, Apple FAQ
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106290
is apparently wrong for 10.3.9 users. When I follow the instructions, I don't get the option "other" when relogging in.

Sounds like maybe you need to figure how to remove that OrangeWare package. I don't know how to tell you to log in as root. Are you sure it just doesn't require you to log into the main Admin account?

Are you running 10.3.9 on all your other two machines too?

I'm running Tiger so I can't really say for sure if your problem is restricted to 10.3.9. I recall other people running this card with 10.3.9

Uninstalled Orangeware. Still no network. My other machines (one uses Tiger, one 10.3.9) use Apple cards, so not an issue. The only thing I can think of at this point is incompatibility of the card with my particular machine, a G4 Mirror Door 867.

I doubt it. I have a G4 Gigabit which is a little older but a very similar machine- works fine.

You probably need to get Tiger installed.

Its been a long time since I posted here but since I just got back online after about a year with one of these cards I thought i would post my experience.

After installing this card, my machine (Rev.2 B&W G3 450 w/ 10.3.9) would not even see it. After reading this thread, I downloaded the RA Link drivers and still could not get my machine to see the card. I called Belkin technical support and the agent pointed me to a whack of drivers for this card on the Belkin webpage (Version 1 through version 6) by simply clicking on the support center link and typing in 7000 in the search field. I downloaded the Version 3 driver and installed it. My machine then realized, hey, theres a wireless nic installed in me and i could surf. I ran Software Update and it had an update listed for third party 802.11x network cards, so i downloaded it. Things were good.

After a few days, I noticed that my machine would drop connection a lot and I had trouble reconecting to my router (Linksys WRT54GL with DD-WRT Firmware v23 SP1). So I decided to try the RA Link drivers again. This time they worked and ive had a stable connection to my router since.

One more thing i want to note is that in the latest driver package (Dated 2006-08-29) from RA Link there is a 10.4 driver included in the package. Has anyone tried this? Or better yet, has anyone had any sucess with it?

Thanks for all the help in the post though. I would have been stuck without it.

That's an updated version of the driver I successfully used to get my version 3.00 working before I returned it for a version 2.00. It should work too.

I was looking for a wi-fi card for my G4 800 and saw on the Belkin site that the F5D7000 supported mac - great, I thought - hotfooted it to dixons parted with money and hurried back. :)

Installed card - nothing - nada - zip!!!

Any kind of driver on the cd? - nope!

Anything about mac on cd? - nope!

Google mac+bel....
brought me to this forum where someone has a belkin card running - yay!!! :)

Read thread - ok so all revs seem to work except 5 & 6, let's see, what rev is mine? 6!!! ARGH!!!! :(

Thoughts of returning to Dixons - where the collective technical knowledge would fit on the head of a pin - prompted the attitude of "Well there's a link posted for drivers from RA - sod it I'll try it"

Downloaded driver, restart, first thing that pops up - "WirelessUtilityR61CardBus" - showing a connection option for my Linksys WRT54G Router!!! :)

Connect - connect - connect - CRASH!!!

"Your computer........

restart or shut down???
- shutdown, give the old mac a chance to gather its wits (and purge its memory) - ok start up again - first up this time is network status asking me to configure PCI Ethernet slot 5!!!
Shovel in local network settings - accepted - fire up "Wir...Bus" utility - found router - put in WPA key - connected!
Test - test - test -ping - ping - ping - all working!!!
Am I sure - sure isn't mac connected to Linksys by cable anyway - unplug cable - test........ :D

I'm connected to the web and this forum right now using a Belkin F5D7000UK ver.6000uk card and RA Link driver!

The specific driver file I used was RTCardBus D60-1.0.9.0 D61-1.0.2.0 UI-1.2.8.0_2006_08_31.dmg under "Macintosh - RT61+RT2500" link on
http://www.ralinktech.com/supp-1.htm page. Used the CardBusWireless-Tiger installer from the CardBusWireless-10.4 folder.

Don't know if this is an update - do I care - it works!

Sorry about the rambling, but hope this helps and many thanks to Sparky and the rest of you for your help and dedication to the mac community!
Thanks for all the help guys!

Nearly forgot - system Tiger 10.4.8 on a G4 800 with 1G ram - any other details you need just post or email me.
Thanks again

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread. I just bought the Belkin F5D7000 and no Mac drivers came on the CD, I was choked. I went to the Belkin site and only version 3 had MAC drivers. I was like WTF!!!! There is more than one version to this thing. I assumed version 3000tt....the one I had meant ver. 3

No go didn't work. Luckily the ones on the Ralink site did the job perfectly.

Thanks all.

I should mention I installed this on a G4 with the latest OSx 10.4

So please share: What version card do you have and which drivers worked for you?

Also, I should remind anyone reading this that purchased a F5D7000 to call Belkin, ask for a supervisor and complain about... 1. Misleading marketing info on their web site. and 2. Horrible tech support. Either support the Mac fully or don't support it at all.

Hi Sparky

Just joined this site and right now am at a complete loss so hoping that maybe you can help.

I have got a Power Macintosh 6500/275 that someone very kindly gave to me,
now I know absoloutely nothing about Macs....good start eh:cool:.......

I also have a Wireless Network Card (Belkin) F5D7000 says on the little white sticker on the back Version 1132uk,
also have another Belkin wireless router F5D7001 version 1101uk.

Would the F5D7000 be compatible with the mac ?

Hoping you can help.

Sandra.

No idea what "1132uk" is supposed to mean. You'd probably have to call Belkin and ask them which Mac drivers you need.

Although since you have a very old Power Macintosh 6500 (Spring 1998 for the 275), you probably won't be able to do anything with that card. Your Mac can't run OS X; System 9.1 is the highest you can go. Nothing before a Blue & White G3 cir 1999 will run OS X. Without OS X, no drivers for that card exist. I'm not even sure any WiFi drivers were ever written for OS 9, let alone your Belkin. And that all assumes you're running OS 9.1.... your computer shipped new with System 7.5.5

I'm glad you have a Mac, but it's obsolete and getting it up to date is hardly worthwhile.

The good news is that your Belkin should be compatible with many later model Macs and PCs.

Sorry for the bad news. :(

Hi Sparky

Hi Sparky,
Many thanks for getting back to me and throwin some light on to the situation.

Would it be worth my while taking out the ethernet card and putting a USB Card in its place ? and then plugging a wireless usb adaptor into that?
Would that work the same way?

Please be honest with me, tell me if its worth it or not, cos if its worth it then maybe I can do that and if not then I just wont bother and I'll pass it on to someone who can posibly make good use of it, cos as it stands right now, its no good to me at all :(

One solution only leads to more problems especially with a 9 year old computer.

Even if you could do it with USB, the fact remains that the best you can do is OS 9.1... OS 9 was replaced by OS X about 6 years ago... finding "classic" software and drivers is getting almost impossible so I seriously doubt a USB wireless adapter would run under OS 9.

Someone else correct me but I believe that OS 9 did not have much, if any at all, wireless support.

If you just want to just play around with an old Mac then fine. But you can't expect to do much of anything you couldn't do past the year 2000. You'll have to run the old OS using only the software and hardware (except HD & Ram) available at that time. Your stock hard drive would be too small to store music or photos. You'd have trouble with a DVD player and forget about burning DVDs. USB/Firewire only with an adapter but you'd probably need OS 9 to run the drivers. You'd be stuck in a 1998 computer bubble time warp - more or less.

If you want an older Mac that you can use every day to do useful things and be able to expand more easily, then I'd recommend something from at least 2001 with a 500 Mhz G4 processor, 5 to 10 GB HD, and 512 MB Ram. And then run OS X. USB & firewire is built-in. Full DVD and CD burning support... you'll have more expandability.

I'm running OS X on a couple older machines with less than that (1999- B & W G3 350 Mhz) but it's really pushing it.

If you can afford it, you could probably pick up a used Intel based Mac Mini for less than $500. Otherwise a pretty good used G4 should run about $200, more or less.

Thought I'd chip in with a report on my experience with the Belkin F5D7000 rev. 6000uk.
I am running a Power Mac G4 MDD with Tiger 10.4.10. This PCI card was not recognised by the system. However, the Ralink support page has drivers - the Ralink part number PCI/mPCI/CB (RT256x/RT266x) at the Ralink Support Page for Macs will get this card working.
Two notes however: firstly, this card will not operate as an Airport Extreme card, and thus you cannot use the Airport menubar item with this card, for example. Instead, you configure your connections with a Ralink wireless utility. Secondly, although the box for this card indicates operability with channels 1-13, the utility only seems to give access to channels 1-11.
I've decided to return the card as I would prefer to have an Airport-compatible card (eg. the rev. 2000 or 4000). The vendor, eBuyer.com, has offered to search their stock for a revision of this card that meets my requirements, and will offer an exchange if they find one. Otherwise, I will simply get a refund.
Hope this helps someone.

SiR G.

PS: It appears Belkin now have a rev.7000 card in circulation, for which it is currently offering -beta- drivers on its website for both 10.3 (Panther) and 10.4 (Tiger).

Just bought a Belkin F5D7000UK from Currys, £19.99.
I'm buying it for a PC but as I'm a mainly Mac person I thought I'd get one that had a chance of working in a Mac for the hell of it.
Turned out it was a version 7000 one, pretty recent I presume.
Expected nothing having read this site; and on first boot there was indeed nothing; no lights on card, no acknowledgment from the system that the card was installed.
However I checked the Belkin web site,
http://www.belkin.com/support/article/?lid=en&aid=6001
and it turns out they have beta drivers for version 7 cards, for 10.3 and 10.4 (I'm running 10.4.11 on this Mac).
Installed the drivers, rebooted, and it was straight online to my local pub's network!
Reconfigured it for my network (WPA2/AES) and it works fine on that too!
Won't be doing much more testing as the card's for a PC; but nice to know that version 7000 F5D7000 cards seem to work fine in 10.4 with Belkin's drivers.
Throughput and range seem comparable to my laptop card.
Still don't know what chipset v.7 uses; sys profiler gives Vendor ID:0x1799

F5D7000 v .7032

Hello,

I recently purchased a belkin F5D7000 wireless card via walmart online. The card came and is version 7032. Belkin has a driver on their website and it does work.

They do have a spelling error in the program. wireless is spelled woreless in the add profile window. They also do not allow copy and paste of the passwords into the input boxes. I find this annoying when trying to enter a long passkey.

The chipset is RTL8185L. This comes up as a Realtek chipset. Realtek does list drivers for this card for OS 10.3 and 10.4. I have not tried them.

Update: I installed the RealTek drivers. It asked me if I wanted to upgrade my driver. This is appears to be exactly the same as the belkin driver. Still has the same wireless (woreless) spelling error. Driver version is 1.4.2 (OCT 23th 2006).

I have this card in a G4 Digital Audio with a Quicksilver 867 Processor installed.

Machine Name: Power Mac G4
Machine Model: PowerMac3,4
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.1)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 867 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
Memory: 448 MB
Bus Speed: 133 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.2.8f1

This was an after market 867MHz cpu for a quicksilver. Lacks L3 cache and is a 7455 CPU.

Connection speed

I managed to get this card to work on my G4 running 10.3.9 but it runs ridiculously slow. I've tried the drivers from Belkin but no improvement so far.
I think I got the F5D7001 type and a label on the card says version 2001yy.
Have I overlooked something that can cause the connection to run this slow? Perhaps it has to do with my router settings?
I'm a novice and really lost, so any help would be greatly appriciated.

10.5.4 results

Hi, this thread helped me out when I was trying to figure out which wireless card to buy at the local Staples so I wanted to report back. I'm running 10.5.4 on a new-to-me Powermac G4, I believe its a digital audio. The F5D7000 version 7032 works with the driver from Belkin's web site, even though they only say 10.3/10.4. The only slight hiccup is that when you restart, the wireless utility shows up but it seems to be dead because it won't allow you to type anywhere in it. I just restarted again and ran the utilitiy manually and then everything was good.

Thanks guys/gals!

Belkin Wireless Card F5D7000 ver.7

After working with this F5D7000 ver.7032 pci card more then 30days I was going nuts. I download the driver from Belkin's support page ver:7xxx and it didn't work at all. I got this card in a G3 B/W Mini Tower with OX 10.3.9 with Airport Extreme ver:3.2 After doing a lot of searching I downloaded the Driver RT2500:1.9.0 Date 12/4/08. But after looking at the Wireless Card I seen the large chip was from Realtek chip # TR8185L so I downloaded there a driver from www.realtek.com Look Under > Downloads / Communication-Network Ics / Wireless Lan ICS / Wlan NIC / IEEE 802.11 a/b/g - mac / BBP-Software then look under Other then pick your OS 10.3 or 10.4 Download from Site 1. When I installed both drivers I pulled the wireless card (power still on) and moved it to a new slot and I had to reboot the computer. After restart I had a crab looking thing in my tray. Clicked on it and then on Available Network then Connect and Finally I was online. O forgot to say I was on the phone with Belkin Tech for 3hrs and they couldn't help at all. Also my Router is a Linksys WRT54G

Thanks YA'LL for the link on the RT2500
