Everyone saying AppleCare Plus removes the need for a screen protector are forgetting about scratches that can occur in your pockets seemingly out of nowhere. Litttle pieces of dust and sand, they’ve scratched every iPhone I own to date. I can’t bring myself to ruin the actual iPhone X screen, so I think I will get a screen protector.

I think the reason people are saying it makes no sense with AppleCare plus is why waste $40 on a protector if you can replace the entire screen for $29 at any time if it gets damaged or even scratched more than you would like? Most likely you will not need more than 2 screen replacements that are offered- although I guess for some people that aren't as careful that's an option- but even so you can use the protector only after 2 replacements. There's also the point that so many people use some kind of "upgrade" program now and no longer have to worry about resale value and just give in the phone every year. The actual glass screen protector will get scratched just as much, if not more, than the actual glass of the iphone... so really either way you will be looking at light surface scratches on the phone whether it's the actual screen or a covering right over the screen. I have used a few different kind of protectors before- and between perfect alignment/coverage & dust getting stuck on the edges from putting in your pocket, they all take away from the enjoyment of the screen at LEAST a little and bother me as much or more than some small surface scratches do. That is my take at least.

Update: still really liking the Belkin. I know some have had issues with their Belkin’s cracking. My phone actually slipped off the bed and onto the face my phone :(...but I’m happy to say the phone screen and protector came through unscathed.

In the spirit of searching for another screen protector that’s just as good..if not better than the Belkin for a cheaper price I’ve ordered two other products from Amazon.

Eakase https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076D1LY39/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
iCarez https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074GXSW19/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They should be similiar in thickness being .22 and .2mm vs Belkins .21mm. I’m not taking off the Belkin just to put these on...but I’m going to dry/test fit them against the Belkin and if I’m satisfied with the cut/coverage, I’ll keep them for backup if and when the Belkin breaks.
Sounds good! Please post your thoughts when you compare them

I was told that you could not claim a screen replacement under AppleCare+just for scratches. That it's only for when you actually smash the screen. Of course if you were to deliberately smash the screen to try to get a replacement you would be committing fraud and risking other damage to the device.

Light surface scratches they will probably give you a hard time- a deep scratch you can easily argue as "screen damage" and get a replacement- I have done it before. Apple is pretty willing to work with you on most cases, especially if you have applecare.

Would love to know what you feedback is when you get these.

The steam helps you get the same alignment when applying the protector as you get at the Apple store with the machine.
Not sure how steam helps with the alignment, but it definitely helps with removing dust and particles from the air for a dust-free application.

I had to have my iPhone 8 replaced twice. The guy dealing with me was
Really great he said that having to get replaced twice was really poor by apples standards and because of that he offered me a free belkin screen protector and case of my choice.

I do like the Belkin protector. I love that it’s REALLY thin. One of the things I hate about glass screen protectors is that they always make the home button feel like it’s in a hole. Non of that with the belkin.

It’s a cm too thin width wise. It causes a slight rainbow effect at the edges of the screen.

I do like it but it is in no way, shape or form worth the £30 Apple charge for it.

I had the Belkin applied to my iPhone X in store today.

My thoughts are: meh. It for sure covers more of the actual screen than the iPhone 7 version did, but.... there's still a rainbow effect. And some dust still collects at the edges. And the notch cut-out is actually really glaring in daylight because the soft cured edges of the glass are shiny around the notch. Also the alignment was a tiiiiiiny bit off center.

I sort of feel disappointed but then I also know that I wouldn't be able to last more than a few days without a screen protector on my phone because I'm paranoid of scratches.

Had the screen protector installed at Apple on launch day, just noticed a small bubble forming in the upper left corner. Driving the OCD in me crazy.

They will install a new one for you if you get bubbles within two years (1 year in the Netherlands)

I heard that you have to go through Belkin not Apple? I will try stopping into the Apple Store and see if they will replace it.

Thanks!

Well I received them yesterday and did some test fitting this afternoon as well as compared them to some other protectors I have bought. Of the two I like the Eakase the most in regards to coverage. It's just as tall and wide as the Belkin so it covers just past the edges of the OLED screen. The iCarez is shorter like the Sparin one I have...which both end right at the edges of the OLED screen. I prefer the longer ones because when you swipe down from the top or up from the bottom....you're swiping your finger over the edge of the glass a bit less and makes it feel a lot better. As for thickness and roundness of the edges...it's hard to compare to the Belkin without actually installing them. But laying them on the table and swiping my finger across the edges...the Belkin does seem a bit rounder/smoother. They both seem to have the same oleophobic coating as the Belkin, didn't notice any fingerprints building up while handling them. One of the Eakase protectors showed the rainbow effect on the edges when I put it on top of my phone (with the Belkin), but the other one didn't do that....which I found odd. Must be due to some variability in the glass or the cut of the edges?

Overall I don't feel at all compelled to remove the Belkin to install the Eakase...even if I had gotten the Belkin for free. I think the Belkin is still the better proctector. But the Eakase is a nice cheaper alternative worth trying out...and will hold onto it, if my Belkin ever breaks.

A couple of years since the last post in this thread.

Have things moved on? Is the Belkin screen protector fitted by Apple worth it? I have an Xs max.
