Popular iPhone accessory maker Belkin has issued a recall for three of its products, including the Belkin Auto-Tracking Stand Pro, the Belkin BoostCharge USB-C PD Power Bank 20K, and the Playa USB-C PD Power Bank 20K.

The Auto-Tracking Stand Pro has a model number of MMA008, the BoostCharge Power Bank has a model number of BPB2002, and the Playa Power bank has a PB0003 model number. Model numbers are located on the back or side of each product. The charging stand and both power banks were sold in black, while the Playa model was also available in white. Affected devices were sold on the Belkin website and through third-party retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Best Buy.

Belkin says that a manufacturing defect can cause the lithium-cell batteries in the devices to overheat, resulting in fire and burn hazards to customers. The recall is also listed on the Consumer Product Safety Commission website.

There were approximately 83,500 units sold in the U.S., along with 2,385 in Canada, but the CPSC does not include international sales. There has been one report of a fire in the United States, and 15 reports internationally. Two people received minor burn injuries, and property damage totaling $37,765 was reported outside the U.S.

Customers who own an affected model should stop using the protect, disconnect it from power, and contact Belkin. The devices should be kept in a safe, dry location away from anything flammable or anything that can damage the power bank, and they should not be placed in waste or recycling bins.

Belkin is offering full refunds or store credit, and is asking for copies of receipts and proof of ownership. An image of the product showing its serial number is required, and if a receipt is provided, the purchase price on the receipt will be refunded. If no receipt is available, Belkin will offer the average sales price for the model. Customers can also opt for a Belkin store credit worth 20 percent more than the average sales price of the device.

Has anyone tried submitting a claim yet? I've tried in two different browsers and have the same issue....hit submit...the confirmation page shows blanks next to where the case # should be.

This is probably more about a supplier issue that they used for these products. Also, isn't it nice when the government keeps you safe by working with companies on safety recalls? It's almost like the government is trying to protect us.

I'm kinda happy with this recall as I have the Auto-Tracking Stand Pro that i don't really use as i expected for facetime calls. So getting a full cash refund or refund + 20% with Belkin are excellent options.

Good GRIEF, I'm just about done with this company. They had that other issue with the 3 in 1 stand thingie that I just ended up throwing out.
Not to mention a couple years ago when their WeMos got hacked, and instead of issuing a patch, they told us to kick rocks, even though the devices were on sale not long before said hack. I had to replace a bunch of devices out of my own pocket. And now they're EOLing all kinds of other WeMo products soon. If at this point in 2025, someone is a MacRumors reader and still buying Belkin products, they've got a screw loose. I will not mince words here: They are absolutely the worst major Apple-adjacent brand at this point. They deserve to fail and hopefully will soon.

In their own words, from their recent email (albeit yet another product of theirs) ....

We understand this is a letdown, especially if you’ve relied on XXXX in your daily routine. Reliability and trust have always been central to Belkin, and we recognize that this transition may not reflect the experience you’ve come to expect from us. We are genuinely sorry for the disruption.

** Never Belkin **

I bought one of these and only used it once because it was terrible! Looks like I might be able to get my money back!

Anyone with one of these (Auto-Tracking Stand Pro) should shoot me an email. My gmail is exactly what you’d guess it is.

Last December, I bought this Stand Pro with a Power Bank combo via Costco. They were available on clearance at my local warehouse for $29.97 + Tax.

I submitted a claim yesterday and the instructions were to include photos of the stand's serial number, which mine didn't have. Got a follow up message today, further requesting photo with serial number. I sent a few more pics showing the device with no serial number but my original box/packaging which does include a serial number.

An hour later, I get an email with a choice of $99 refund or $220 Belkin credit (which must be used in a single purchase).

Out of curiosity did you have to download a Belkin app and create an account to use it? My first reaction was it looked like a cool idea but then I realized it probably needs a proprietary camera app to work.
agree. they were decent quality prior to the Foxconn acquisition, but nowadays stay away
I remember 20+ years ago Belkin was definitely seen as a cut above other accessory brands. Everything gets turned to ****.

Oh yeah. I forgot about those too! I ended up tossing those and moved to Tapo and love them.
I agree with everything you said.

The natural reaction to this headline is to say “again? They have way more fire risks than other companies.”

However, isn’t it also possible that other companies’ batteries are just as risky, and only Belkin is actually doing something about it by replacing customers’ products with safer ones?

Are we to believe that “JIYHF” and “VRURC” and similar random Amazon companies (yes, those are real names) are producing higher quality batteries than Belkin only because they haven’t had recalls? Or are consumers just being left helpless when those do start on fire?

Perhaps we should give Belkin credit for accepting their mistakes face-on instead of trying to cover them up.

Was planning on buying the auto tracking stand. Glad that I am aware of this now. Definitely won't be buying one now. Don't know how international customers will be refunded.
