My Benchmark score

Hmm, I was debating returning my new 13 inch MackBook Pro Retina 2014 since I just got it like 3 weeks ago. The vendor wanted to hit me with a $300+ restock fee so instead I got them to give me a $50 credit for the price drop and they also had a $50 mail in rebate going on. Looking at the score I don't feel as bad. My machine cost a small fortune. Here is my Geekbench score for my machine which is actually higher than the new one. Hmmmmm...

Also Apple continues to mess with the thermal settings on this model, I am running SMC Fan in order to keep my machine running cooler and in turn prolong its life. Heat is the number one killer of laptops or any small form factor electronics where you have a lot of stuff crammed into a small space.

I wonder if the Skylake version of the MBPr will get USB-C. If so, maybe they'll sacrifice the Thunderbolt port for it eventually.

Nope. Two different ports for two different purposes. Why do you people keep saying this. Makes less than zero sense.

What are the chances that we will see a 13" Skylake Macbook Pro this year?

Decent, at the way end of the year perhaps.

Yes I will!

I have seen it 100 times but not with the right focus, because I want to buy it now.

Then it reads well, you say? You've got to compare it to a normal iMac 27"?

my rMBP has bigger text than my iMac 27 lol. If you use the default 'Best' setting in Yosemite on a rMBP 13, the text size is the same as a regular classic MBP with 1280x800 resolution which has bigger text than all the MBA and the iMac 27.

ughhh dont kno if i should wait for skylake this year or to get the current 13"rMBP from last week

Wait till the summer so you know for sure. If you can make it 3 more months, then I would highly, highly advise waiting.

if they announce a release for 2016 then should i just purchase the current one. right now i can wait until august

They certainly aren't announcing a 2016 product in the beginning of June 2015. That would make no sense. The whole point is, it would be coming out in the summer.

there is seriously zero reason to upgrade to a new rMBP if you have a 2014 model. heck even the 2013 are still decent

I agree, very minor upgrade indeed, as expected. Pity the folks the waited for Broadwell for many months due to the delay. They may as well keep waiting now, since my money is on some major upgrade/redesign coming with Skylake.

MacBook Air v2.0 prediction

iPad Pro will actually be the MacBook Air v2.0
- Intel Core M CPU (1.1 GHZ or better specs than MacBook?)
- 128-256GB SSD
- USB Type-C port
- Force Touch Retina screen sensors for Stylus pressure sensitive illustration
- OSX operating system with iPad like GUI
- iPad like design with larger screen

Macbook Air 13" 2013
1.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz with 4MB shared L3 cache
8GB memory
512GB flash storage
Intel HD Graphics 5000

vs.

Macbook Air 13" 2015
2.2GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
8GB memory
256GB PCIe-based Flash Storage
Intel HD Graphics 6000

Which one should I get? Thank you!

I don't get it - my soon to be 3 year old MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2012) is almost as fast as the new macbook air?!

Intel has been putting their resources mostly into power saving rather than all out speed. The new MacBook air isn't much faster than your 2012 ivy bridge, but the battery life is superior.

Get the MBP :)

Tough decision. I bought an iPad Air 32gb and MBA 13" 2014 a few days ago because they were on sale.
Today, I tested out the 2015 MBP 13" and decided to return the iPad and MBA to buy the 2015 MBP 13" 8GB RAM 256GB SSD. It's super fast and the screen is amazing.

rMBP is too heavy! Battery is all but superior to MBA!

I hope you're joking. Considering there's a measly 1/2 lb difference between the MBA 13 vs the rMBP 13 is why I returned the mba for a rmbp.

Retina kill the battery, you should know that by now. Why do you think people still want to use MBA even if it's not retina. It's the king of the battery out there!

I guess you work than 10 hours a day away from an AC power outlet.

I have seen multi core scores for the new 13" inch MBP over 7,000 all over the Internet from various credible sources, these numbers posted are inaccurate.

I think you are right I have also seen them. Even on the Geek Bench web site. Anyway I felt really good for a second thinking my machine was faster haha. Anyway I'm sure my scored are not too far off.

Easy explanation .. Those scores are 32 bit results. The ones you've seen are 64 bit. The new machines are marginally faster ...

Marginal depending on the person. For me, the upgrade would be a bigger difference coming from a 2011. My problem is as a consumer with an older model I am in a difficult situation. Do I buy the new 2015 13" or just keep waiting to see if there is a much bigger upgrade to the Pro? Skylake and the potential of an entire redesign by the end of the year has me unsure about what to do. Pretty much everything is just speculation and with new advanced stuff like this there could always be significant delays.

speed, weight, retina: pick 2

It's so frustrating: you can't have a fast processor AND light weight AND retina all at once. You have to pick two:

retina + speed: MacBook Pro
retina + light weight: MacBook
light weight + speed: MacBook Air

Given that in my middle age I could use a better resolution than my current MBA 11'', yet I don't want anything heavier as a I carry it everywhere, and yet I don't want something likely a step back from what I am using speed-wise, I am stuck.
