When connecting two Pro Display XDRs and a Caldigit TB dock to the M1 Max, is there any technical reason why it would be better to connect these devices to different TB4 ports rather than daisy chain them all with one connection? I believe there used to be different Thunderbolt “buses” on different ports, and that it was better to spread out the devices. I’m not sure if that is the case anymore. Any thoughts?

Each TB port has its own controller giving the full 40gbs of bandwidth, if what you are plugging in requires all this bandwidth for full performance then it will benefit from its own port of what you are plugging in uses a fraction of the bandwidth at full performance you can happily have multiple things plugged into one port. The pro display XDR uses around 30 gigs of your bandwidth for video leaving around 8-10gigs for data transfer making its USB ports run at around usb 3 speeds.

So it sounds like if I’m using two Pro Display XDRs, I should give each one it’s own port? Using a CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Element Hub I could daisy chain them, but I wouldn’t want to limit the bandwidth.
