Attacking your character? It NEVER will be that serious for me. I do not know you. You're a screen name on macrumors, nothing more-nothing less.

& I still stand by my statement...

Yep. Didn't think so.

Added a note to the post about the word 'bumped'

Did you even read the account? He didn't bang into the side either. According to him, he literally flopped his full weight against the side of the rickshaw with the phone in-between.

I'm trying to figure out exactly how the iPhone 6 was bent. It looks like the phone was pressed against the steel tube that comprises the side railing of the rickshaw when the passenger was suddenly thrown to the left. The phone appears to be bent at least 45 degrees backwards. The battery pack must have shorted out.

At least the owner was not more seriously injured. He could easily have gone up in flames.

This is an extremely serious incident.

It's not an extremely serious incident because it is all lies. No way this actually happened.

Although extreme, the phone catching fire is both surprising and concerning.

Not the phone but the battery inside it. These types of batteries are sensitive to damage, e.g., bend, puncture, etc. It has to be enough to cause physical damage to the cells. A small bend will be OK, but that's a subjective statement. Damage the battery and not only does the magic smoke come out, so does fire.

it doesn't seem apple will do anything about this.

What would you have them do? Batteries don't like to be damaged.

Looks like when the pedicab tipped over his leg and phoned slammed against the metal bar on left side. The phone didn't bend because it was in his pants. It bent because it was slammed against the bar with the full weight of his body. The bar is what bent his phone. His body weight, and those of the other 2 passengers who likely slid onto him, was all focused on that metal bar and thus was distributed on one small point of the phone. it was not a bump, or a bend caused by being in the pants. It was a very strong blunt force impact.

The media won't care... They are going to make a spectacle out of this...

More I think about it, this was a freak accident that people should not worry too much about. While the incident was serious, it's unlikely to happen in everyday life. There are very few situation where the weight of 3 people would crush a phone against a steel bar.

What do you mean suspect? oneofthenine didn't post the original blog, he just reposted it here...

I tossed it off casually because it is a FACT that some peoples phones have bent while in their pocket when leaning over or doing some sort of activity that applies force to the phone... Or do you just not believe the phones have not been bending and everyone is doing it with their hands?

Looks like you don't know what the word "fact" means.
Facts need to be supported by evidence, not assertions.
The only facts we have are that there are people who have purposely tried to bend phones, and were able to. Like those two people in the UK who showed that they were at first unable to bend the phone at the Apple store, but were eventually able to. Or the video of the guy who bent the phone and commented that his thumb was sore for 20 minutes afterwards.

----------

I don't mean to mischaracterize this as a minor knock.

Yes you do.
Because that is EXACTLY what you did.

You have been repeatedly dishonest, it isn't even funny anymore.

Updated further to try to explain, thanks.

I can see Apple replacing rhe phone, but this doesn't like Apple's fault.

Also the title should have a graphic warning in it.

I've noticed this, just by being a causal reader of this site.

Bumping this post.

At the same time, wouldn't read into this account too much, just Google battery exploding or phone battery exploding and you get a bunch of examples of both iPhone and Android phones having this occur.

Need more details, cos its hard to believe, i dont believe it sorry

It is a big amusing actually.
CR bent iPhones, none of them burst into flames.
People posted videos of them purposely bending phones, not of them burst into flames.
People get lose their hair from the iPhone, none of them burst into flames.
Some guy "bumps" his phone (word used by some guy who has an agenda and a website about this) and it bursts into flames in a pocket )that probably didn't have all that much oxygen to support a fire).

I think the point is that batteries are known to set on fire if put under stress in lots of devices. If the casing flexes but the internal components don't then stress is put on them. No one is saying all bent phones should have burst into flames but certainly pressure on the battery could cause that.

Not sure a nasty chemical fire like this is going to be extinguished by cutting off oxygen in someones pocket, but fair play trying to find a reason why you can dismiss this as fake.

How did his iPhone get set on fire? Sounds like there was a problem with a little shield on the inside. (Lithium ion batteries like the one in the iPhone are prone to spontaneous ignition, but manufacturers that use Li-ion batteries mitigate the risk of that happening - that's why we almost never hear of computers spontaneously igniting.)

I'm assuming if you bend the battery then safety measures built into the battery could be compromised.

Wikipedia says: LiPo cells are affected by the same problems as other lithium-ion cells. This means that overcharge, over-discharge, over-temperature, short circuit, crush and nail penetration may all result in a catastrophic failure, including the pouch rupturing, the electrolyte leaking, and fire.[17]

Lithium ion batteries and fire do not mix. Considering Mcdonald's got sued for hot coffee, this could end up bad for Apple. If this story is even 20% true there will be tons of pro bono lawyers will to help the sue Apple. A court might say make your phones stronger or put warnings on the phone. I laugh everytime I see caution hot coffee on my cup.

There's a reason airlines will not let you put Lithium ion batteries in check on luggage. :) they are known to ignite. This was a freak accident involving a lot of force against a metal rail.

Someone MSG Unboxing Theory, so he can do a bend / burn test to prove this was legit or not bahahahahahahahaha!!!

To the dude who got burned, hope you get better and let Apple's PR team take care of this issue.

"The media" probably won't report on it at all.
The media in the UK love an 'iPhone catches fire story'.
Its usually a piece filled with an alarming series of events where they insinuate the design and ethos of the company is at fault before ending it with 'but they used a third party charger bought off eBay' or 'he sat on the phone while riding a rickshaw'. :p
