Last night I a paper folder of mine fell out of my hands and landed on my macbook pro's keyboard.. however when it landed on my keyboard it slid underneath my left shift key and bent the entire key upwards. :(

I bent it back .. well I tried. It is able to be pressed down now.. it is functional, but it is very crooked looking in comparison to the rest of the keys. I also don't know how much of a beating the hardward took from the bending.

Is there anyway I can get a replacement shift key or something? Does my first year of apple care by chance cover it? Any advice for fixing my shift key?

Google Macbook pro replacement keys, there are some out there.

Or call apple and tell them that the shift key is broken and need a replacement. you might have to send it in.

Can I take it to my closest Apple retailer? Could they fix it?

Yeah, take it into a shop somewhere. Most likely the key is just off a bit and may be a quick fix with no replacement needed.
