You need to be using the mini display port to DVI adapter and the cable that came with the monitor. If you are using HDMI you won't get anything more than 1080p.

I'm using this adapter:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/B/mini-displayport-to-dvi-adapter?fnode=51

And the dual link DVI cable that came with the monitor, also tried another dual link dvi cable I had, no go.. still 1920x1080..arggh

what I got from their support forum.. The problem that is displayed there is however that the DVI to minidisplay connector from Apple does not support more than 1920x1080.

and supposedly need this adapter with the usb power for dual link dvi..

Dumb question but you did go into the display settings in preferences and change the resolution to 2560x1440 on the second monitor right? Sometimes it defaults to 1920x1080 when you first hook it up.

I'm using the first adapter you mentioned and its working fine at 2560X1440.

Yup, sure did.. I've worked IT for 25 years.. so yeah the easy stuff has been tried.. it's not an option. Not sure how it works on yours since the physical adapter limits to 1920x1080 and you need the dual link adapter to run higher resolutions.. /shrug

Try going into the settings on the monitor and change the display port you are using.

You don't need Dual link DVI. All you need is a mini Display Port to Display port adapter, which you can get in Dell store, cost about USD10 or less.

U2713HM already has a Display Port cable. So, you will able to run native resolution, 2560.

Alternatively, get a mini Display Port to Display port cable.

This is exactly what I've been reading about at various sites. The Dual link adapter is not needed with the Dell monitor using the proper ports which is probably why mine is working without the dual link adapter.

2nd Monitor

New to the forum. After doing so much research, reading about the apple dual dvi issues and korean monitor issues. I finally found a solution. Newegg had these in stock. It ships out of California. No converter box required. Hooks right up to a 2013 imac without issues.

I made a video of my new monitor.
