Could anyone suggest some good apps that allow you to take 16:9/9:16 photos since the native iPhone camera won't allow it?

I don't understand Apple's mindset on this in 2016? Or am I missing something?

It's nonsense that we have to edit each photo to 16:9!

Thank you.

There is a way to do it on the device using the Camera app itself:

Aside from that, I recall there are at least a few apps that allow for it, like Camera+ I believe.

I hear what you're saying, but you shouldn't have to mess with video to capture a still, and you can't lock focus and adjust exposure using that scenario.

Apple needs to fix this!

I have been using ProCamera for years and I love it. I've tried many different ones because I hate 4:3 photos and ProCamera was by far my favorite.

I have ProCam 3 it has a lot of options. Still mostly use stock though. If I could change the Camera system wide I would probably use ProCam.
