Best 3rd party external hard drive for Time Machine

I'm sure this has been asked before but I need current info on current products. What are some good Time Capsule alternatives?

I have a 27" iMac with a 2TB hard drive and currently have no external backup/storage solution. I think the Time Capsule is overpriced and I don't need its wireless base station functionality. I just want to be able to back everything up neatly and efficiently to a 2TB external drive that is compatible with Time Machine.

Anybody know a model # or brand name that I should go with that you've either heard good things about or had personal experience with?

Brand does not matter. Buy the drive with the best warranty that fits your budget. No platter-based drive is better than any other.

the mercury elite line by OWC is often recommended. so are these drives by LaCie.

It's been a while since I or anyone lasted updated this, but the external hard drive market isn't exactly the fashion industry.
