Hi, I am looking at 80-100tb JBOD for Macbook 14" 2024 with Caldigit T4 dock to consolidate image files from the last 5-10 years.

How is the Sabrent DS-SC5B performance/reliability compared to OWC Thunderbay 4? I was lookng at 5/10 bay Sabrent dock. DO THE DRIVES SHOW UP AS POOLED STORAGE or does each drive show up as individual volume on your macbook? Or do you need to install more software to show a consolidated pool of staorage.

Sabrent markets the dock for Windows on amazon so was wondering if there will be some incompatibilities with mac such as sleep issues or random disconnects.

Which are best drives for the Sabrent/OWC dock?

I was looking at OWC but don't like their Softraid limitations for usage on one computer if I choose to use RAID. I mainly have 2 backups of all my data for each year and want to have the Sabrent/OWC as a quick way to access all my files at once. I will then keep the 1 backup at an offsite location.

I don't currently need NAS but that might be useful for accessing files when I travel.

What are your solutions. Thanks!

I have the DS-SC4B paired with a M2 mini since September. I replaced the stock fan to make it quieter and am pleased with the result. Solidly built, simple, perfect for my JBOD use but I have had some periodic disconnects (as with my Sonnettech TB4 dock and Acasis NVMe drive). But after installing the Jettison app, all is well....

Thanks! Do the individual drives shop up as different volumes on your desktop or is there a way to just show all the contents of the 4/5 drives as one volume? I was looking at OWC raid system but don't want to pay the annual SOFTRAID fee.

A reivew of DS-SC4B said that the (lack of) dampening mechanism on the drives could lead to premature wear and tear on drives. Have you had any problems with the drives vibrating?

They show as individual drives; I'm not doing any RAID.
