I just thought of this and I’d be shocked if someone doesn’t implement it..
Magsafe wireless battery pucks! Say they come in a pack of three or something , you charge them up, throw one in your pocket , and 1 in your car and 1 in your bag. Then anytime your a little low, Boom pop it on the back and get an extra hour or more of battery depending on the thickness.

man I wish I wish they offered this at Lauch lol

Definitely a cool concept, just need to make sure that the magnetic connection would be strong enough to hold it on and in place even with the weight of the pack. Not promising given an empty leather wallet slides right off.

I am confident apple will be coming out with a MagSafe battery back. Just a matter of time.

This, basically. MagSafe exists in this strange no man's land where it's effective enough for its current purpose but not quite as strong for what it could potentially be used for in the future. Maybe Apple will dial up the intensity of the magnets in future iPhones.

Sounds like a great idea, but in packs of 3? Why would the average person need 3? I can see carrying something like that around in a backpack or pocket when I'm travelling, snowboarding hiking or working in the field (instead of my current battery pack plus lightning cord), but in my car I can just plug my phone in using the lightning cable I already keep in there. Just thinking 3 packs would be more expensive than you think as this would basically need to be a wireless charger plus a battery pack.

I've thought of this aswell! This could be such a good concept, especially since this year we got a reduction on the battery size across all models.
I have this awesome power bank from Xiaomi, it stacks perfectly on the back of my phone, without making it unholdable.
I wish someone could build a magsafe charger on top of a thin power bank like this, it would be amazing.

Because it would be the size of the MagSafe, thin and small, give like an hour or 2 charge

Mine MagSafe is very very tightly held on, if there was no wire it wouldn’t be going anywhere. Have you tried it?

I haven’t used one so I don’t know for sure but it seems like the MagSafe is kind of just like plugging a cable in. You can’t life it off with one hand and it’s a very short cable. Why not just plug the lightning cable in?

I believe, and do not quote me on this, but I believe accessory makers can make the magnet connection stronger with the magnets they use on their end. Belkin is making a MagSafe vent dock for your car. It will not charge the phone but you have to assume the magnets are stronger in the dock then the magnets in the wallet or the phone would detach every time you hit a bump making it pretty useless.

Yeah, it would be quite the failure as a product if your phone flew off on every speed bump 😄

What you're saying does theoretically make sense, I can see how that could work. Pity I was always atrocious at physics though, so I too can't say for sure!

Maybe the “Apple Tags” will work like this?? I’m wondering if/how they’ll incorporate MagSafe with Apple Tags. Seems like a natural match given their shape and similar size.

I’m thinking they will be other way around. The tags will be able to charge from a phone, I want other way around

Totally agree with the OP: This is most obvious accessory for the 12. Even if it only gives you those extra two hours or something.

buy an apple silicon or clear case, cut the edges off and glue it to the top of a Qi powerbank. Voila - magsafe wireless powerbank.

Actually I have a Qi powerbank, but I don’t fancy the expense of chopping up an official case. Whats the cheapest thing that supports magsafe (even third party knockoffs)?

Because I thought this idea would eventually be out on the market, I held off on buying the MagSafe charger because I’d much rather save the money for this charge puck.

Future iPhones so thin with enough battery to activate the phone with this in MagSafe to use it. Sold separately of course. ;)

I love the idea of it, but when you consider all the internals needed just for the connectivity, then start adding batteries, how slim could it be?
