What is the best web chat app out there? I need it to load fast (even over EDGE), keep the connection while browsing other sites, and look nice. What do recomend? FlickIM doesn't look all that great and has no options. JiveTalk is painfully slow. Meebo doesn't save the connection when you browse away. Mundu looks weird and is painfully slow AND doesn't save the connection while browsing away. Tiny Buddy has some major UI issues and seems to never be updated any more.

Seems to me like the IM department is seriously lacking. Also I am running 1.1.1 so 3rd party apps are a no go, or I would be running Apollo.

I agree, beejive jivetalk is the only IM client that does everything I want in an elegant fashion.

I'm not sure if it is still around, but Heysan! was pretty nice and was rather speedy.

Jivetalk had the best feature set of all the ones I used, though. Maybe Trillian's version of Astra for the iPhone will be better :)

I do like HeySan, but it's seriously lacking in features. It needs to distinguish between available buddies and ones that are Idle / Away, but I do love that it saves the current chats when you navigate away from the page... something that no other service does.

jivetalk does keep you connected and save your chats if you navigate away without logging out.

No it doesn't. JiveTalk keeps you connected, but when you come back all your chats are gone (except for messages sent while you were away). Heysan keeps everything.

You're kidding right? FlickIM is fantastic. Its servers know when you are away and then the app stops constantly working to save your battery and then Texts you an alert when you have an incoming IM. It then reconnects flawlessly and even has a signal strength meter. It functions in a single window which is great because it uses fewer resources. The only downside the Flick is that its only AIM. BeeJive is bloatware now which is why its so slow. That beign said, I haven't used any of them in a while, not since the native Chat clients became as good as they are.

    1.0.2 and Apollo baby!!!
