I haven't needed to rent a car since before the iPhone era, but I potentially could be traveling for work on a somewhat regular basis. Was wondering what type of car mount would be the best investment that would work in almost any rental car.

I have a CD-mounted iOttie in my car, and a vent mount in my wife's. But I want to be prepared for a rental car that no longer has a CD player AND has vents that aren't compatible with a mount either.

Does that leave a a windshield mount? But I know some states have laws against them (I'd mainly be traveling to IL and CA).

Anyway, what's the best swiss-army knife of car mounts that will work, regardless of rental car?

Based on some other recommendations I bought an iOttie suction cup mount - model Easy One Touch 4. Only had it for 2 weeks but has stayed solid on my Prius textured dash. Can be easily mounted to windshield. Available in a Qi charging model too. Liked it enough to buy two more for the other vehicles.

I got one of these. https://www.powr.co/

Solid, adjustable, adjustable/long neck, hasn't fallen off the windscreen and wireless charging is nice when you get in and out a lot. 8+ in a case fits fine. It also has vent mount.
