HP: all garbage from the first inkjet to the last laser model. Most unreliable print quality and results. I will always recommend that people stay away from HP printers, even on the Windows side. Ink is very expensive and fewer features than other vendors as well as unreliable print jobs.

I totally agree. However, there are members of this forum who remember HP printers when they did not suck. After HP made the transition from in-house manufactured printers with the durability of anvils to out-sourced crap, I made the transition to Xerox Phasers. I have not looked back.

I have a Brother HL-4040cn Color Laser connected to my switch. Works great for household printing (book reports, recipes, text, basic color etc.) Brother discounted them $200 over the holidays, so I got it for $200 from Officemax.

I also just ran out of ink on my Epson R380 which was nice, but had to use a wireless print server from linksys (flakey), so I spent a few extra dollars and upgraded to a Canon Pixma MP620. The 620 has built-in wireless. It took me about 15 minutes from opening the box to working on both Macbooks. The Canon software works great. You can scan from the printer to the Mac or from the application on the Mac. One of the things that pushed me over the edge on this printer are the $14.00 replacement cartridges.

Both of these printers work via networking on the Mac and they setup very easy.

No pdf printing with the MP620

Gonna have to agree with that, my Canons always perform wonderfully. Currently have a MP620 and highly recommend it. Another poster mentioned the Samsung 2010 and I can recommend that as well.

Do you maybe know how to print pdf files with the MP620, when opened with an Adobe program (like Acrobat Reader). With me it does not work...

I gave up on inkjet printers and went over to laser. I bought a Brother laser printer, black and white only, and I love it! I was so sick and tired of buying ink all the time and even as a last ditch effort I tried the Kodak All In One Printer and not only did it consume as much ink as any other inkjet printer, it even quit printing properly and I had to get rid of it.

So, what do I do about printing pictures? The answer is two-fold, first for the most part I DON'T! and secondly if I have to I will just send it over to Walgreen's or some other place that prints pics cheaply...for the once or twice a year I may have to.

You can buy the Brother Laser Printer I bought here and get rid of your headaaches over ink!
