So...what's the best app for ripping Blu-ray? I know there are a few out there now but have never tried them. I guess I'll be in the market for a blu-ray drive now.

Make mkv. There is even a hack about that should allow you to watch blue ray by streaming it to vlc.

I just found out about MakeMKV. Exactly what I'm looking for.

Questions.

1. Is there a HUGE difference in watching 720p rips on an iP4 compared with regular DVD rips? I'm ripping for studying languages so I'm wondering if blu-ray is even worth it for me.

2. To rip blu-ray for iPhone I'd need MakeMKV +plus Handbrake or something and I heard that the encoding to avi/m4v can take years especially if you have a slow 2007 Macbook like myself. Again...wondering if blu-ray is worth it for me.

Sounds like MakeMKV would be good for me with my flat screen + PS3 Media Server for home theatre use though.
