We are starting to see some ARkit apps appear in the App Store. The flood gates will probably be opened next week with the general release of iOS 11.

The intent of this thread is to keep a running list of the best (meaning: most innovative and useful) ARkit apps in one place. I've made this a Wiki, so apps can be added to the first post and you can use subsequent posts to provide detail, if you'd like.

  • Carrot Weather (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/carrot-weather/id961390574?mt=8): Carrot has updated its app to include ARkit enabled weather (forecast, current conditions) "projected" onto your table or floor. This falls more into the "interesting" than "essential" category, but its the first use of this capability I've seen. (Apparently this early release was an “oops”)
  • Strava Fitness AR $2.99 (https://9to5mac.com/2017/09/19/strava-augmented-reality-fitness-ar/) Fitness AR lets you explore your Strava bike rides and runs in augmented reality. Using Mapbox, a beautiful 3D terrain map is placed in the real world allowing you to walk around and explore your past activities in a way that wasn’t possible before. The featured section has a list of activities you can explore including the terrain of famous cycling routes like Alpe D’Huez and stunning locations like Yosemite Valley. Screenshot and video capture capabilities make it easy for athletes to share 3D maps with friends. [supposed to go live 9/19]

It will work with most recent devices:

iPhone 6s and 6s Plus
iPhone 7 and 7 Plus
iPhone 8 and 8 Plus
iPhone X
iPhone SE
iPad Pro (9.7, 10.5 or 12.9)
iPad (2017)

It will be present in apps.

PCalc Lite added A/R. You need to do an in-app purchase to see it though, so I haven't seen how it works yet. If anyone thinks its good enough, add it to the Wiki.

Here is Carrot weather running AR on my iPhone 7+. It’s ok but more of a gimmick rather than something I would use on a daily basis.

PCalc has a cute AR demo in its about screen. I think App developers want to have fun with AR so they are putting cute AR Easter eggs into their apps so they can do so.

Don’t buy, it’s a waste of money. Instantdelete

There’s no doubt there will be a lot of really bad implementations of this. That’s the point of this thread: to capture the best ones. Im sure we’ll be seeing some really good ones beginning Tuesday at 1 pm EDT!

Trying using “ARKit” as an app search in the App Store. The list of resultant apps has been growing slowly. There is some new AR chicka game I just downloaded (free)
After iOS 11 is released to the general public I suspect the floodgates will open!

Most of those don't actually use ARKit at all, unfortunately.

I only downloaded the one game because it is free and it is available now. It actually can use AR, starting at level 6. You set the plain, size your play field while viewing a 360 degree AR view with your real world in the background, using the camera. The game is mildly fun. I have yet to play level 6 in AR mode though.

The game Freeblade now has an AR section where you can see the robot in AR. It was one of the demos the new iPhones had in the hands on area last week.

What was the app that superimposes the constellations in the sky using ARKit that was mentioned in the Keynote? That looked really great!

Yep. After completing the prolog, I can now see a mech battle, in my kitchen
