If you're looking for a very strong computer AI, our app, Backgammon NJ, plays on the level of GNU Backgammon (an open source desktop program that plays at world-class levels). It also includes features that can help you learn to play better by showing you the best moves to make in each situation. Backgammon NJ is relatively new, first released on 9/1/09.

I liked your post, so I bought it. $4.99 is really pricey though for a backgammon game. I would suggest a firesale, even though I realise it's a new app and it's hard to compromise when it's your sweat and tears.

Our target was never the masses, but more the discriminating player who is looking for a strong AI comparable to top desktop backgammon programs which sell for significantly more. We think, for the moment, that we've found an acceptable niche.

People who are looking for the least expensive app will most likely not recognize the ability and strength of our AI and will be happy playing other apps with weaker AIs.

Ahh, the backgammon purist app. ;)

I see you came out with an update, which I have already applied. Your responsiveness here and in updates is certainly a plus for buyers. Thanks.

Must admit, of all the backgammon games I've played, I feel this is the best and I've been more than happy with the price. But then again, coming from a Symbian background, I feel that all apps in the AppStore are incredibly cheap.

I also downloaded Backgammon NJ, and so far it is great. It does everything I have been looking for. I particularly like the one-tap move option, which helps speed things along and is similar to my favorite backgammon app that I'm addicted to on my Windows phone. Most of the time, I don't want or need to replicate the feeling of playing on a real board (e.g., sliding pieces around, shaking the dice); I just want to play a quick game.

I would also like to see a portrait option so that I could play on the iPhone without holding it sideways. That method works well on my Windows phone (although I have a stylus, so that could be a factor).

I considered myself a mediocre Backgammon player (some Backgammon with the wife years ago, and some Acey Deucey in the Navy before that). I very recently downloaded Backgammon NJ, and am now sometimes winning 7-game matches in Expert mode. Sometimes.

I had a VERY hard time getting over feeling that the computer was cheating -- and still mutter in disgust when the computer gets some of the most over-the-top lucky rolls. I'm finally coming to grips with reality after checking out the vendor's website to see that the dice rolls are indeed pre-determined and random. On a logical level, I believe this is true, but it's still hard to accept all the time.

All that said, I'd rather learn the game from an AI that can serve up an a$$-whooping than one that gives me false confidence.

Regards,
Tom

Pardon for the bump sirs, but which of these apps has the most players online? I'm looking for something with a large online base. Thank youu!
