so how is bowling on Wii sports? how do you like it?

I think it's the best Wii Sports game, but that's my opinion.

Pros:
Easy for everyone to play
Invite some friends over and its close to being as much fun as actually bowling - grab some drinks and snacks to make it more authentic
You don't leave with that smokey smell on your clothes (though for those of us in GA, its not a big deal since the government passed the smoking ban, you'd know
twoodcc :))
You can Bowl in your underwear (or naked)

Cons:
Doesn't have the feel of real bowling (and I'd hate to see a weighted bowling controller shell - Imagine that flying into your TV  )
There's not the general ambiance of going to a real bowling alley, other bowlers, good music (you get the crappy Wii Sports music, would have been way better with mp3s off of an SD card)
Not in TD*

Bowling is also how I partially justified the cost to my wife. :D On average, we used to go bowling once every other week and it would cost us $30-40 each time, so I rationalized that the Wii would pay for itself in just a few months time.

*True Definition - beyond SD, beyond HD, it's TD :)

You could also rationalize buying shoes would pay for itself in just a few months time. I dunno where you bowl at here in GA, but I think we spend about 10 bucks for 5 games, just follow the coupons around.

Yeah, before we moved, we lived in Zebulon, GA (waaaay out there) and the closest bowling alley was in Griffin (20 min away) so following the coupons made little sense as you'd spend a lot in gas. On Fridays and Saturdays, its $3.50 for shoes and $3.50 per game. We'd usually bowl 3-4 games each so $14-17.50/person * 2 (me and my wife) is $28-35. Add the occasional soda and/or snacks and its 30-40 bucks.

At least going to the movies was cheap (only 5.75 for a ticket). It's part of living in a smaller town, you just learn to deal with what you've got (1 bowling alley, 1 movie theater and a few (really rank) pool halls is all there really is for "going out" entertainment down there), but it is slowly growing down there.

thanks for the reply. i actually live kinda close to Lawrenceville (or at least my parents' house is kinda close)

i could use the same rationale to talk myself into getting a Wii as well. I love to go bowling, but half the time i can't get my girlfriend or anyone to go with me.

do you wind-up and everything just like in real bowling? i think i take around 3-5 steps to bowl (i think, maybe more).

right now i'm leaning towards getting one this summer, since i'm in college right now and buying that would only distract me even more from studying (like i'm not distracted already)

Cool, we should have a GA MR members get-together sometime.

Personally, I like doing the wind-up and follow through as though I were really bowling (I'm a 5-step bowler), but you certainly don't have to (especially if there's not enough room to do it). The Wii remote also picks up side spin from the wrist, too, so you're able to add spin to the ball.

I think it was 184. One game I got five strikes in a row, and bowled about a 175. Obviously, didn't do so well outside of those five strikes...

My high left-handed is probably about 130. I used to go all night bowling in college and I switched hands when I got tired (/bored).

Ha! We used to do that too. Thought we were the only ones that crazy. :) My left handed high is only around 117ish though, if I remember correctly.

now that sounds like fun! how much did that cost though?

i'd be up for that :)

sounds pretty cool. so how do you release the ball (or act like you're releasing the ball)?

289 high game. 790-something high series. I've got the badge thing at home. Nice thing was, my two highest games were in league. My 273 game (second highest) I was riding an LSD peak. I could have sworn I was moving the ball into the pocket with my mind that night. Maybe it was just that I could still see the trails from the previous throw...

Thanks for a legitmate LOL for the day. :D

so how do you release the ball (or act like you're releasing the ball)?

hold the b button (the trigger underneath). you hold it, pull back to start your swing, bring your arm forward like you'd do if you were really bowling, and let go of the b button when you want to release the ball. if you let go near the bottom of your swing, the ball will leave your hand lower. if you let go higher up, the mii will "throw" the ball a little ways down the lane. and if you let go during your backswing, the ball will go backwards toward the crowd, who will jump in surprise. :)

oh ok. i see now. one day i'll have to play this at someone's house.....and when i do, i'll probably go buy one :p

I've been bowling league for six years. My highest game is 300; Actually, me and my brother both shot one the same day, it was at the State Tournament a few years back in Tennessee. My highest league score is 278 -- I bowl on Saturday Morning youth league -- Highest series is 758.

Also, I carry a 198 avg.

Cheers,
Alex

That's is very impressive, Alex! Most people do not realize how hard it is to carry at 190+ average. Yours was pushing 200. That is right at the border of Pro-level. For golfers, that is equivalent of a scratch handicap, playing once a week.
